Sunday, August 25, 2002 by Dreamdesign3d | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

It took me 15 min's to figure out swish, 30 min's to figure out PSP, and 1 month to figure out 3DS Max ( still have not got the human part to that) I payed for object Desktop and all that comes with it but for some reason I'm not getting it. Is there a Tut. out there that I have not found or is it really easy and maby I'm making it harder then it is. And this icon thing I tryed to make some icons with this free trial icon (beeeep) but they look like there were streched out.

Depends what you mean by 'not getting it'.

If you mean that you don't know what all the seperate programs do, then look in the Object Desktop entry on your startmenu, and you'll see an entry for each program you have installed. Under those entries you'll find weblinks to a site for each app you have installed using Object Desktop, which should give you all the info you need.

If you're having problems with using Object Desktop's Component Manager:

When you open it up, you'll see a section called 'available components'. This is the latest versions of all Stardock products, that are available, and you have not installed yet.
The 'downloaded components' section allows you to manage the files you download. From here you can install and uninstall programs, and delete old program files which you have updated.

"And this icon thing I tryed to make some icons with this free trial icon (beeeep) but they look like there were streched out. "

I won't even try to follow that one......

If you're trying to make a startbar with Objectbar, good luck to you! You have to start it in SkinStudio (a proggie that I find VERY confusing), and then when you go to Objectbar, it's not going to let you use the file name you saved in SkinStudio.

btw......if anyone know of a tutorial that actually explains the ENTIRE process, I love to know about it.

As a long-time mess-around-with-Windoblindser, from the days before SkinStudio and Builderblinds as well....I haven't got out of the 'old way' of decompiling another's skin and doing it all by hand.....and it's bloody slow, too...

2 days and I've almost finished the main screen for a WinAMP skin...yep, that's the way it's 'supposed' to be done....and not with a skinbuilder proggy...WinAMP skins done with those are almost invariably sub-standard...

Koasati: I have an IRC log of when I talked someone through step by step in creating a brand new OB skin (about 3-4 months ago). If you want it let me know and providing they don't mind I'll send it to you. Alternatively I will try and chop it up and make a tutorial. I tend to use notepad a fair bit when creating a brand new one but I think there is some advice regarding skinstudio too. Let me know whatever.
