Edge8- First WB Theme
Wednesday, February 6, 2013 by SimplexDesigns | Discussion: Skinning
I have been messing with an app for windows vista all the way to 8 called Windows style builder. That tool allowed me to create custom themes for a patched system. Although it was great, there are in fact flaws that prevent me from doing certain things. Owning object desktop for 2 years now, I realized that I could try my hands at making a windowblinds skin. This windowblinds theme features a custom roll up button on the top right of each window. I still have much to do; Start menu, Drop boxes, Storage bars etc... I also have designed a dock Background to match the theme: https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/objectdock_backgrounds/429/
What do you think so far?

I really like the taskbar! And the frames do look nice too. Only the titlebar looks a bit boring in comparision. But I hope that not much will be changed till release.

lol, yeah I have a majot learning curb to learn skinstudio. Doing something different from another way I theme has more work than I thought. Once I get the hand of it, I will be able to produce higher quality work.
It took me an hour just to start getting the start menu aligned properly. Just have a few more imaged left on it.

Looks pretty good but needs more finesse. Take your time dude. You'll get the hang of it. As for SKS.......I can stare it in the face now and not run away really fast.

By the way, you are doing fine. I bet it took me five days to cut my first start menu!
I did not use help forums or tutorials in the beginning, I was to good, so I thought. Found out quickly how much is involved in skinning and still learning myself. It is worth the effort though if you like to create and share.
Always help here, DT1

The aero like overlay on the control panel
Edit Vista / 7 Control Panel and Navigation Parts
Control Panel
Side bar.
(branding is the glyph or image you can add over the side bar image)
You can also change the text colours of that area too.
Change skin colours/Edit colours/ when the edit colours window opens, down the bottom you will see a button that says "Edit vista/7 part colours"
click on that button.
a new window pops up. and the first section is called "control panel"
that is where you change the colours for that area.
close and apply when you are done to see results.

Thanks Vamps, I can't read. I first thought I knew, then I thought it said windows 8, not the theme from seven, called windows8. Glad you can read.

If you plan on uploading the WindowBlind on WC, you'll need to rename it. Edge is taken. LINK

It will be on deviantart then. I'm not renaming just because someone has the same name. Lol. I had the name for my edge theme for a long time. I'm too attached to its name. Plus I did upload the dock here and it seemed to vanish from my uploads. Not to happy with how uploads are handled here.

On dA you called it Edge8, that should work for WC. No conflict there.
Oh and your dock is right here: https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/objectdock_backgrounds/429/
Uploads here are moderated to protect the artist/creator. BTW,don't expect many folks from here to go to dA for anything.

EW, you made me see DA. Not my idea of a good morning.Just my opinion, but looks pretty factory still, but would prefer to see more done before passing judgement, so to speak. Looks like you have the drive and ambition to do whats needed though, by your DA gallery.Keep going!
