Turning Desktop theme off??

Can anyone tell me how to turn my active desktop off?When I try to get Desktopx up and running I get a message that says to turn my active desktop off so desktopx can work.I have tried everything I know how to but no change.It says some specifics about the icon display too,but I tried that as well with no luck.Is there any advice you might give me?Windows Blinds is working fine but Desktopx will not display properly.Thanks.patrick
