DesktopX question about z-order

I always used DesktopX on Windows 2000/XP, that allows the 'always on top' z-order, so i created some of my themes using this z-order.
My question is:
Wath happens on nonXP Windows when you uses a DesktopX theme on 'always on top' mode?
-It remains on the desktop?

I guess my old system has become my skinning test box for designs and making sure it works on the all or most Windows platforms.
