Idea for a new community project

Wednesday, December 26, 2012 by k10w3 | Discussion: Community

I'm posting this thread to see if there is any interest in a community Windowblind -- by this I mean a pass-around project, somewhat like a patchwork quilt, where the first person does a section, say the start menu, then passes it on to the next person, who would do the task bar and task buttons, and then they would pass that on to the next person who would do the windowframes, etc., etc., until we all decide "it's done" -- kind of the Stone Soup of Windowblinds.  I'm pretty sure it will look rather Frankenstein-ish, but I think it would be a lot of fun (and funny), if you're kind of new to skinning Windowblinds it would be a way to get your feet wet without too much commitment/expectation/disappointment and learn along the way.  I will volunteer to be the project coordinator, and if something "doesn't work" I'll post pictures with work-arounds (if I can think of any) and if there is no work around, we can discuss why it happened and what could be altered to make it work.  I think this would be a great hands-on learning project for anyone who wants to participate.

If you're up for this type of a project (I think we would need a minimum of 2-3 people plus myself) let me know in this thread.

That would be interesting as it's never been done!

Nope... never done. Karen mentioned it to me in the past and I thought it would be a really great thing to try. Why not?

I hope it turns out to be a fun project... without any pressure. Could be the start of "The WC School of Skinning" [Headmastress Karen in charge -

Uvah:

When a female runs a school she is called the Headmistress.

Karen was just promoted to Master (our ranking system has no female equivalent) .... sooo.....get it?

Since whoever makes the first chunk would, ultimately, decide the Windowblind style, it'd be a good idea, I reckon, to sort of decide, first, what theme, or style you'd like to make it in -- as a community. This way the second person knows what to expect.

Make sense? hehe

Cute idea.

It may take a little while for folks to see the tread and respond being the Holidays.

Sounds like a great idea Karen.

I thought that we could start with something a bit plain at first, my first color choice being blue, as it's an easy to work with color.  I figured if we kept it kind of plain, we might be able to send it around for a second time to add second layers for dimension/shine/texture etc., and glyphs for people who don't want to be constrained by painting margins.

Maybe if you participate you'll get a little more familiar with it and start to enjoy it -- at the very least, you're just doing a "part" of it.  A whole Windowblind can be overwhelming sometimes -- just a section, not so much.  You don't have to do a big portion of it -- maybe just the push buttons or the scrollbars.

Can pizza be part of it?

Just asking...

I got it. It just sounded a little strange is all. Good thing the ranking system is gender neutral. What would really be confusing is if we had guys and gals with same names like Charlie, I knew a girl named Charlie, or Micheal. Guys names too. Michele I think is french or some such. You can stop me any time now....rambling on and on and...................OT!

I'll help with the graphics but somebody else has to plug 'em in. SKS scares me. <

You should join in Tom!  This would be an excellent opportunity for all of us to put our creative brains together and learn from each other.

I thought that the last project was done like that, but , Dave Bax set me straight. Love the idea I thought it was then, and still do. Could be a piece of art in the end, or, a piece of crap, either way sounds fun and challenging to meet each others expectations. Nice post.

If you run out of help, I would like to try to help, but, I am on dial up. Might be to difficult for you all to wait for uploads!!!!!
