The Nickname we choose....

Thursday, August 1, 2002 by joetheblow | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Why did you choose the nickname you chose???
I chose joetheblow because I'm just an ordinary Joe Blow. I put my pants on one leg at a time, I have a wife, 2.5 kids, single, live with my parents, about to go to a retirement home, highschool teenager, college graduate, voting, non-voting, citizen, alien, yada yada yada...you get the point.

So I have meaning behind my name. Does yours? Or is it just a name you came up with? (nothing wrong with that!!!)

I have alsonoticed that some people wanted to change (or have) their nickname, why???

Those on Stardock IRC know me as 'ed'. Though that is not how I started out on irc. Originally I used WizofOZ because I was currently developing ObjectZip (sorry Jafo, nothing to do with your esteemed country). At the time the Stardock channel was on Efnet and I started getting private messages from people I didn't know. Being the naive sort sometimes, I didn't realize the Wizard of OZ is highly prized by the gay community. I am a married heterosexual and I didn't really like being contacted like this. Some of them were quite rude, so I had to find a different nick. Being less than original, I just went with the short version of my first name. By the time I got over to Wincustomize to register, 'ed' had already been taken. Somebody was as original as me , I felt proud . I was rereading LOTR at the time (before the movies ) and Faramir was the first name that popped in to my head. I kinda liked it and here I am.

I feel so ordinary, my nick is my initials. I used them because my first nick got wiped out on one of ls.nets many crashes and someone else took it when it went back up.

Always liked Griffins. Unfortunatly it is always taken as are the alternate spellings. Griffinme never is.

BTW: It is not my last name. Caesar would be closer to my last name.

I'm always on the go, never stop. I even have my computer set up so that I can stand at it, rather than sit. That way, I can take off at a moment's notice. Go! Go! Go! A heart attack waiting to happen. Gotta keep movin'! See Ya!

I have great respect for wolves as an intelligent animal. I also relate to the way wolves interact in family settings. I feel a certain kinship with pack animals. I am the alpha female in my home and tend to be alpha in any company I keep. Thus, I created a nick that said how I feel. Unfortunately there are so many "Wolf" names out there I had to alter it slightly. I remembered my favorite epic poem in School was Beowulf and voila! I chose wulf. well guess how many wulf's there are? tons. so I considered the problem. While considering, I met the man of my dreams. thus "n1" (and one).
ok so it's dorky. It's still me. and wulfy is my nick to those who are close friends. (VvvvV)

I always imagined Stardock was because they were giving us infinity... it was the image I had from the name. If I were going to reach for the stars, I would want it to be in all this beauty!

Had the lifelong nick Buzz, but had to give it up in Thailand. "But(t)" is the closest a Thai can come, and that got old real quick. Lloyd came out as "rawy", so I say rawy and they pronounce it lawy ( close enough) Didn't even try for Buzz here 'cause I've never seen a site where it was still available. And Old Crab was already taken. Fuzzy Logic was also spoken for, and I couldn't live with Furry Reasoning.

okay me finally gets to this one... hehe

obviously I use no nic though I have some nic's that other ppl call me which I will spare you guys the details of. (only crae knows them) hehe

I choose not to use a nic cuz I can never think of one for myself that feels right to me, and I want to be me no matter where I'm at... (even though I hate my name)

Doreen wonders how ppl remember all their nics when they have diff ones all over the place

I had to have a mobile, updatable dB file to track all my stupid names/pwords. The iPaq beckoned and performed, but then it started demanding battery extenders and all kinds of software garbage, and then it started whining incessantly for "skins", drawing me into the dark realm. Using Doreen will probably cause a lot fewer problems!

Back in the mid to late 80's (in the midst of my high school days) an excellent movie came out. (Top Gun)

One day in the early 90's I was playing a computer game (Can't remember which one now) and it allowed you to give your character a nickname. I didn't want to use my own name so I chose Maverick. It too is a popular nick on the net so I have a few different versions of it all over.

My nick came from the inability to type my own name correctly. Now, can you guess my name?
