The Nickname we choose....

Thursday, August 1, 2002 by joetheblow | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Why did you choose the nickname you chose???
I chose joetheblow because I'm just an ordinary Joe Blow. I put my pants on one leg at a time, I have a wife, 2.5 kids, single, live with my parents, about to go to a retirement home, highschool teenager, college graduate, voting, non-voting, citizen, alien, yada yada yada...you get the point.

So I have meaning behind my name. Does yours? Or is it just a name you came up with? (nothing wrong with that!!!)

I have alsonoticed that some people wanted to change (or have) their nickname, why???

My screen name used to be waynec02... my first name and first inital of last name. My friends didnt know that, so they thought it was pronounced 'wayne ecca 2'... hence, Ecca2. Stupid I know but it just stuck.

looks like everybody has a story to tell about thier name. from :I couldn't think of anything" to "theories of existance".

I just wanted to be a regular Joe, doing my thing. But somehow I end up doing more than the regular Joe.

aren't we all Joe Blow's???

Ok, my nick came from a Taiwan movie of the first 90ties: "Rebels Of The Neon God"... wow it sounds cool! I choose it 'cause it seems to me like something metropolitan and nocturnal, underground, a nick in the cool hacker style, like names of the characters in cyberpunk's stories from William Gibson or films like "The Matrix".
Bye

HOW A SKINNER GOT HIS NAME
--------------------------

Come with me if you will to a land far away and a time before skinning.

Picture the scene. A moonlit night in India. A woman wracked with pain. A man trying desperately to stay awake by drinking lots of tea.

Suddenly there it is. A screaming messy baby and a terrible choice.

The choice was hard and fraught with danger. And what was this most terrible choice you ask?

* cue dramatic music *

What to name their son?

* end dramatic music *

James (after his Father) or Philip (after someone else)? They grappled long and hard for what seemed like an age (but may have actually been seconds) and hit upon a cunning plan. They would use both!

But just when they thought they were out of the woods and running for home they found they had another choice.

* Cue stunned silence *

The choice was hard and fraught with danger. And what was this most terrible choice you ask? (Feeling a sense of deja vu yet)?

Why, it was which order to put the names. The wrong choice could doom their son to a lifetime of not having a catchy nickname. They sat and thought for another time that seemed an age (but may have ben seconds) and finally (after maybe even flipping a coin, although that may just be a corruption to the original story) bestowed the names on him. (He was also given the name Powell as a matter of course).

One day this bouncing baby boy (in his twenties) happened upon a wonderful land where wishes come true and dreams are made (and no it wasn't BoXXi's magical dragon land). It was called skinzorg or somethign similar. But before he could enter the wonderful land (flowing with skins and themes) he had to complete a task. The fiendish task was to find a name for himself.

Being an impatient sort with little imagination he just stuck his first two initials to his last name and entered the wondrous land.

And thus the skinner known to some as pj others as pjpowell and still others as 'The one who did that Thredz theme for DesktopX ages ago but doesn't do much else' and yet still others as 'Who? Oh, never heard of him.' got his name.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry for wasting your time here. The way I got my my nickname is so mundane I thought I'd make it sound interesting.

My employer selected the nick name. He bought us black ice hockey shirts and at the back he wanted our names. Because I am eating a lot of (chocolate) ice cream and because I was mad he called me MadIce. My Dutch first name is Matthijs and MadIce sounds a lot like it. So, the nick is easier for you to write and pronounce. BTW: All the shirts did have the number 13 on it, because our company is called The Thirteenth Production.

Pipowell - Kawp jai mak for the mushlink. I am greatly relieved to know that juni does not smush dogs into the mud. Clarification to name story: Yes Isan provinces are near the Triangle, no I didn't grow poppies there, and please no more email about growing poppies in your garden. Next item: Koasati's response is devious

Jafo can relate to my nik .... a "Wombat" is an Australian animal that eats roots and leaves .....
A "Wombat" is/was the Oz version of a "Tunnel Rat" in Nam.
A "Wombat" is also a stocky and rather grumpy little guy who can head butt his way through walls......
I didn't choose the name, it chose me!
