I thought a 'blast from the past' [12 years old] might be fun....

Date of that was 13 Jan, 2001....
....and I'm still using that same WinAMP ....but now I have a system with more grunt I 'should' have another go at that cursor...![]()

You'd get a sore neck.....that one took about 2 days. So much of the aligning is trial and error....you have to load the WIP onto the plane model in the sim...and see how it looks....tweak...and repeat....![]()
The fuse in that....if the second 25% in length is 'full size', say, then the 1st, 3rd and 4th are at 80% scale..... a real bummer when you are trying to match alignment at per-pixel level...![]()

There you go. Top-left is a metal finish 'blank' done by me...the original skins are paint-finish - shiny but not 'metal' [that's an alpha mod]...then you add bits and see how they look...alignment, etc....until finally the one bottom-right is the finished ver...a plane never painted in those colours....but 'might' have been if AA had a Tu-114 in the livery of their Electras of the same period.
The alphas are altered too...as the painted bits [decals] are gloss....not 'metal'...in all 5 bitmaps are altered...along with their alphas ....10 in all. Mapping the bands on the engines was seriously a pain....alerations ended up literally one pixel width at a time....![]()

Holy crap! That's a lot of work! And I can only imagine the trial and error part. I know just doing the simple stuff I do can be a pain sometimes. I'd still love to watch you do some of this stuff...I just find it interesting. And then to see the outcome and a working product. And you do this all for a simulator. Always wanted to play one of those.

I´d love to see this as a clip. It must be amazing to see e.g. a 5 minutes shot when it starts up with the first scratch to the ultimate final result. Oh yay

Latest skin ....someone asked for a Cuban ver...and since it's a Ruskie plane it's more likely a what-if than most...![]()

Nice skin job
Have you ever thought about taking up WB skinning... ![]()

And what precludes you from doing it in the 21st. century? Just curious. Judging by the detail, time and effort put into your aircraft graphics a WB would be child's play for you. IMO

I was doing them at a time when there was no Skin Studio. I wasn't even using Builderblinds, instead doing it all from scratch.... the same way I am doing these plane skins now. Besides, there are plenty of quite capable WB skinners doing it well, where-as some of these plane models have very few skins/skinners...![]()
My latest one....
