i decline of this site

Saturday, July 27, 2002 by Carlitus | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I decided to no make more uploads on this site, and i also deleted my previous uploaded skins. As i consented to Stardock of using my skins when i uploaded them, they have the correct permission to use them.
Wy i reached this situation?
-I'm not in accordance with some actuaions when some skins/wallpaper are uploaded: for example, just uploading some skins, are immediatelly poor rated. This only can be done by 'moderators'... there's no a person always poor rating new skins.
-I'm not in accordance with newest skinners support on this site. Some skinners has showed me some works, that aren't accepted on WIncustomize, teorically by poor quality. ANd not always the skins have poor quality.
-I'm not in accordance with really democratic criteria selecting Featured skins: not always the skin are the most featured as is showed on top op Home page of WIncustomize. I don't speak about my skins, i speak about ALL authors skins.
-I'm not according with the actuation of some administrators of this site (not only for my last 'problem' (i'm using quotes, do you konw, mr.?)
And last:
-I'm not according with the criteria of this site selcting skinned applications. On this site seems to be only promoted the Stardocks aplications. And also seems to be supported and positivelly commented by administrators the WIncustomize and Stardock collaborators. In this messageboard i readed (one year ago +/-): "this site are intended to supply the disapearance of SKINZ.ORG, but Stardock support this site when the Stardock apps. are preferenced". Well, it seems to be Stardock apps the 'Kings' of this site. There's o reason for this, due to the use of propaganda on this site (included for a author as me that i obtained 70000 downloads on a month), and Stardock can amortize the costs of this site.
Not all my words are negative:
-Thanks to WIncustomize to give me the oportunity of share my skins and works with people of all the planet.
-Thans to T-Man for the help on the Stardock IRC
-Thanks to Martin for support me when i beginned to make skins one year ago.
-Thanks to mr Mormegil to support me, one year ago, and one month ago when i returned.
-Thanks to mr Jafo to trying to help me on 'learning' english and in the case of the rips.
-Thanks to all the people that readed this post and are tried to understand me.
This is my personal opinion and facts, and i not represent any other skinner (or yes?), if someone are offended, he/she must understand that i'm also offended. This not represent my definitive retreat, so i will follow in Wincustomize surelly, but all of yours must understand that i'm now very ennoyed to post more skins on this site.
Be good

despective=mistake, sorry
I mean 'despicable' on my last comments. I tried to "clarify" my 'last' comments, and i finded 'disrespectful' (wow, my new dictionary works allright!) comments.
BUT, THIS IS NOT THE REAL PROBLEM: i mean "disrespecting", in general on this site.
My respect for good (and no good) skinners that are making big efforts to share their works, here or in other sites. This is a personal policy discordance, it's just a 'CHANCE' if other skinners are thinking the same.
I don't wish to polemize, i only say just that i thinking and feel. Not all comments can be: ohhhhh great site... ohhhhhhh great programs..... ohhhh this skin is really good. Or i'm not free to comment, or i need to py before to post comments?

Thank you motion and Jafo for your guesswork translation
Jafo score = 1 motion score = 0 (sorry motion )

Carlitus, you have my deepest respect for your contribution to the skinning community and your impulse, but with good will behavior! I am very sorry that you have to leave because of disrespecting behavior of some people, I don't know who they are, but I guess you know and they know better.

you see...I am secretly turning everyone against each other so that, eventually, all of the talent will have eroded from this site...and then I WILL BE GOD! ! ! ! !

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAaaaaaaa.......

Here is your quote for today Jul 29, 2002.:

In studying the way, realizing it is hard; once you have realized it, preserving it is hard. When you can preserve it, putting it into practice is hard.

time to have another go

feline waves the really big magic wand to make eveyone kind and considerate

i think i see what you are getting at Carlitus. it is always sad to see skinners leave. personally when i comment i always try to leave surportive comments. do remember, not everyone who can comment or rate has the practice or understanding to make a meaningful comment on your work. how can a non artist truely appreatiate what is required to create such things?

however, if you arent happy here, then you need to move to where you are happier. i just hope that with time you can return, and once more grace us with your creations.

I am but a newbie to this site, but I have seen your (Carlitus) works and I really enjoy the art that you create. I will miss it once you are gone, and even if you never upload anymore, don't stop making the skins. You have talent! Don't let it go to waste.

Is this really neccessary ? Do You want to see a reason for getting upset with a site ? http://www.deviantart.com/deviation.php?id=453785 I thought of leaving there because this is the second time some rude person is attacking me because he was banned once ripping the Sountox skins. (Usually I don't consider that a big catastrophe, only if a person attacks me that much). And this is main reason I enjoy this site so much. People can argue without being rude... So, what I really wanted to say : Problems occur everywhere. But it is no solution to leave... And english is not my native language also, so I hope I made myself clear.

Carlitus, I really hope you reconsider.

Writing software, especially desktop enhancement software is often a labor of love. It doesn't pay that well but what really makes it worth doing is when you see someone really talented doing great things. You are one of those great people doing great things. I was at C-net today and one of the guys there was running DesktopX. Do you know what he had on there? Some of your DesktopX objects.

Your work is what makes it all the work we do worth it. Writing software is often a thankless task. But when someone really talented and good and kind like you creates the wonderful things you do, it really makes those long hours we spend coding worth it.

I don't think most users realize the slow transition over the past several months. WinCustomize is your site now. Stardock's day to day involvement on it is very slight at this point. The people who are moderators are some of the top authors on the site. I can't even remember the last time I moderated a skin. The ones who moderate are the skin authors themselves in effect. Paxx and Treetog and Jafo and DavidK and Migeleto. I can't think of more qualified people to do these kinds of things. They also pick the featured skins usually (not Stardock).

I would really be a sad thing for our community if we lost out on your wonderful creations.

There is something to be said about being able to create the ultimate desktop by using a skin made by someone in Brazil (Treetog), a DesktopX theme made by someone in Spain (you), an icon package made by someone in Russia (DAK), and so on. 20 years ago, who would have imagined such things? That we can even do these things at all still strikes me as amazing.

I really hope you change your mind, if there's anything I can do to help you or anyone who feels there is something wrong let me know and I can try to do what I can to help.

Thanks all for your support. I observed that some great skinners are speaking about me, but also are speaking about themselves. I observed some thoughts by experienced skinners, and i deduct:
skinning, as all things, it have the god and the bad side... i'm only interested in the bad part: skinning are for me my first valve of escape (it means my prefered liking), and make skins and share them are for me like a drug... i can't live without them!! Tha bard side are allways the bad, and all of us will life with this, averyone has their bad side.
I never readed some messages like this that it comes from persons of other countries that i unknow (the countries and that persons).
I'm still angry, but i will reconsider.
Thanks all

just remember, not all comments are equal. a bad comment/review from someone who doesnt really understand what you have achieved shouldnt have the same weight as a ballanced comment from an experienced skinner.

do YOU like what you have produced? are YOU happy with your skins? there are the most important questions.

remember, most people never comment, so the comments you get arent very reprisentative.

Carlitus, we are going to put a system to prevent unfair rating. If you have suggestions don't hesitate to contact me.

Carlitus...I'm a 20 year old guy from San Antonio, TX and I vote for you to do whatever is in your heart to do. I can certainly tell that you would like to stay, but very full of anger. You're work is more than welcome on here. When I first came to WinCustomize (when it opened), after the downfall of Skinz.org, I knew I would not have what we had at Skinz. I accepted that. One site falls, another is born, but it will never be the same. That comes with anything, A Business, Products, People. You're work has been loved by many on this site. I sure think its a shame that some people disrespect some people's work because of personal preference. The desecration of the work on this site is high, yet only a select few are responsible. I suppose a few can mean a lot when not many people comment on some themes and rate some themes. Personally, I don't believe in ratings. The ratings of my skins are high, yet I would like to see them discarded. You've gotten messages from Alexandrie, Treetog, Fogboy, and Dangeruss, all requesting your presence here. When the best skinners on the site are asking for you to stay, it means something. You're work is wonderful! Some I like, others I don't care for, but I would never think of disrespecting you and bring you down for doing what you love. I do skins (not that great but have been published in a magazine), photography (Won 2 Awards) and Wrote a book and had it published (Emotions Through Time), nothing seems to have produced any type of praise from people. Dissapointing, Yes, but I do it because its what I love, It's what makes me happy. I posted a screenshot of a new theme that I was working on for DesktopX and the comments weren't too pleasing, so I didnt post it. I haven't posted anything in a while and probably will not do so. But thats personal preference. But please, we love you and your work. You will be truly missed if you decide to leave us.

Thanks Alexandrie, when i'm reconsidering the return to WIncustomize, i'm also reconsidering a good system for rates (i think that this is not the problem, but i know that the skiners always consider their rattings). I will email you, but the most important are that you, and admins of Wincustomize are conseidering the skinners opinion for constructint this site (as bakerstreet said -very intelligent-, the skinners and their works make great some programs -MacOSX don't will be a riped system if they don't have good designed icons!). So, i think, the opinion of skinners must be considered. Put a poll/thread requesting the opinion of skinners, the past year i readed some thread requesting opinions to WIncustomize users. Surelly, they (as me) will agree.
