The one thing that could make windows8 even better
Saturday, November 3, 2012 by benmanns | Discussion: Personal Computing
Ok Windows8 is great its finally something different and i do enjoy it alot.
While i was playing with live-apps and the (Metro-interface) i soon began to notice that there is no "ONTOP" function anywhere- meaning that if you have 2 monitors and click from the Start menu ( metro ) on the other screen Start/metro will close.
I think this is a major flaw there should be a "keep on top" function so that you could have all your live apps running to keep track of what is happening without pressing windowskey again.
An example, I run Teamspeak, Skype, Mediaplayer and Daemontools sometimes also the taskmanger on my second screen and normaly i need to size them down so they all fit into the screen of my secondary monitor.
Windows 8 does a good job keeping them at the same position even if you close and restart the program.
BUT i would love to see the Metro interface make use of that.... I could scroll down to my apps and would still have my Teamspeak Skype at the same location with the same size when i scroll back... It would give you a 3rd to scroll monitor without having one or a 4th 5th......Also having Teamspeak and Skype as live miniapp would be impressive and make much more sense than the skype metro app itself.
I know this might makes no sense atm since there is no Teamspeak app out yet that runs on metro also no mini skype app but i hope you get my point...
Metro could be so much more...I was already thinking about contacting MS to make a request for this in hope to get an update like that ...
If not maybe Stardock will make this possible what do you think ?

forcing a tablet interface down our throats saying its progress is fucking lame, they should have made it an option during install asking if you were installing on a tablet/touchscreen

You can size small ones up to live-tiles and the other way around sadly that is all agree it should be up to you how big a tile is.
What i dont understand is that you can color the background but your restricted from coloring live-tiles ...

No why should they do that, its not an option for tablets only - Did you read the topic ?
Iam using a Desktop PC and i think the potential of Metro is HUGE..but its not full used - (A tabled might be the reason due that not sure)

Like Starkers said Tiles should be more customizeable in scale and in color
There should be the option to keep metro on top ...
When there is no touch screen detected metro should take advantage of the scrollwheel

What would make it even better is if it went and got my drinks for me.
That is all.

Yes, I read the topic...."what would make 8 even better" and my answer was...."if it used the 7 shell".
What part of that isn't clear? ...
was quoting Mayjori...

Absolutely!
I'd like to see greater customisation of both background and tiles... definitely the ablity to resize tiles.
I'd like to see the ability for personalised category grouping... for example; system tools; audio, video; internet; creative tools, etc.
I'd like to see live tiles that can show 'real time' previews like those seen on the Win 7 and 8 taskbars.
I'd like to see apps and shortcuts right-clickable so they can be sent to the regular desktop, pinned to the Start8 menu, etc.
I'd like to see a 'jump to' feature that bypasses categories/tiles to get quickly to the one needed... very useful for extensive app libraries and multiple groupings.
There's probably others, but I think I'll give it a rest so others have a chance to put in their requests.
