Is the time right for a Community Skinning Project?
Friday, November 2, 2012 by Philly0381 | Discussion: Community
Hi ya folks
It has been awhile since the last Community Project, so being the glutton for punishment that I so love being, I volunteer to start one.
Since I am not a skinner this part is really easy. The hard part is coming up with an idea, some graphics or a theme like a WindowBlinds that the rest of the community skinners can use to make additional themed skins.
So if you have some thoughts for a theme lets see them. Now this is not a contest to see who can come up with the best theme. If we get several theme ideas then that can work it's way into several projects. Hmmm, I like that thought, lets not lose that idea.
Just like any other skins that are submitted to WinCustomize to be uploaded into the Libraries the skins for the Community Project must pass moderation. I believe everyone knows what that means, but if you must, ask questions before hand. If you are going to share some ideas for a theme just remember that what you come up with graphically should be able to work for folks wanting to make Docks, DX skins or Winstep.
What themed skins can be done? Well I always like to say if there is a WinCustomize Library for it you can do one.
Basically there is no clock on the project, when it's done it's done. The only thing that will change that is if the consensus is to do a Holiday Theme. That should at least be available for the community to use before the holiday passes.
Okay community, the ball is in your end of the court, lets see what you an come up with.
UPDATE:
1. Just so everyone knows what we are doing, we have two Holiday Themes to make skins for, reply #22 and #31. Please contact Karen and Dave to get what you need, when it is ready, so you can start skinning.
2. Hey, we need names for the themes. Don't really want them to be Community Skinning Project Holiday Theme 1 and 2 do we?
Theme name suggestions: Karen's - Yule Rock and Dave's - Christmas 2012
3. I'm thinking that the WBs and themed skins should go up at the same time about a couple of weeks before the Holidays, in other words lets not upload the WBs before folks have a chance to finish their themed skins. Need to know what the consensus is.

Originally, Xmas was the Saturnalia. So back when it started, the Roamin' (no one would allow him to stay anywhere very long) Emperor Starkerus Fartus Odiferous declared a holiday from curried cabbage ... thus started the whole holly thing. The people were so happy, they made a wreath and crowned him (he's been bonkers ever since).
You don't have to believe me. Check out the British Museum... btw, he wasn't a born English subject... that's just where they keep the bust.
Nowadays he's known (to his friends, wot few there are) as Geekus Fattus Markus Australensis.

Quoting DrJBHL, reply 217I think I'll do a few shops and call them, "Yule Be Sorry"... or "Yule Laugh".

You folks are way too kind.
You know, I learned Ps so I could play with the big boys (Po' and Skinny) then found out HG_E and Fuzzy were really good as well... in fact Fuzzy wanted to teach Ed and me to 'shop'.
Then along came Hankers... who uses Ps on his photography... which is really lovely. He's also very modest about it. Anyway, he alerted me to my Photoshop goddess, Lesa Snider, who is probably the best natural teacher I've ever had the blessing to have. She had a 3 day deep dive into CS5 and then CS6... Bridge, Adjustment layers and retouching... incredible. She made all the difference in the world.
I've tried on several occasions to get folks interested in her webinars, but have had little, if any success... ![]()

Before this thread gets to far off track I just want to remind anyone still working on skins for the project to get'em done and uploaded.
I have the suite descriptions for both themes just about finished.
Once again thank you to everyone who took the time out of their busy lives to participate in the Community Holiday Skinning Project.

I offered to do so in reply #18. No one seemed to want it, so... not gonna happen.
lol... now you're a straw boss? People have lives, Philly: They'll finish when they finish.
Oh.. and it's "too far".

I thought that was such a cool idea, and I thought I posted that I thought it was a cool idea, but in looking back, I guess I didn't. Dang. I need a divorce and then I need to get married to someone with an income so I can just spend all my time here, keeping track of what I said or didn't say. LOL.
