What do you do for motivation?

Tuesday, June 11, 2002 by T-Man | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I'm sitting here in front of my monitor while gazing outsize. I'm watching the wind blow the trees back and forth while I see an occasional bird fly by or a squirrel run accross the ground. But I'm supposed to be starting a new project and just can't seem to get my thoughts organized.

What do you do to get yourself motivated or in the mood?

Motivation?

It's hard to come by, but I usually just close my eyes, sent myself back to the time I've found myself enjoying life the most, and just let myself flow. Once you're ready to tackle it, your brain will let you know, and you'll focus

Motivation??
For me it's set a deadline.
Tell others about it, so you can't get out of it.
Leave things to the absolute last moment.
Then cram to get it done and have a job only about 80% as polished as you'd like.

I just get a pad of paper and some color markers and I start drawing. Drawing, drawing, drawing, until something finally looks like something. Then I try and recreate it in Photoshop or CorelDraw. That's when I can run into some snags. But eventually, even that works out.

Pat,

I start listing the reasons why I'm doing the thing that needs motivation. Two things can occur, you will get motivated real quick, or you forget about it and take the kids out for ice cream!

After working for many years on things that today I discoved I hated, today I work on something I love.
So, this is my motivation, making graphics is something really pleasent for me.
It doesn´t metter if what I am doing is hired of free stuff, I am allways motivated.
The thing is, work on something you like and you will be motivated all time long.

Give me my laptop, late night, time alone on the project (web dev in my case) and I can be motivated for hours ...

to get motivation you need to be inspired...Nothing is so dull as making something without inspiration...To get inspired use your imagination...What stories would the bird have told the tree in the wind?..How does a squirrel look like if it was blue and had crowclaws and a large tail? what would be a name for such an animal...Why have trees no knots in their stems? What colour would the leaves of the trees have if the sun shone green light? You saw a car driving too fast? Give it square wheels... whatever...Good luck

Hmm, lets give that a try:

1) My boss told me to do it
2)

Ok, well, I can't seem to get past 1.
