An example of;

How many times have we heard people complain about ratings given and the lack of comments for why a particular rating.

How about this one; giving a comment but not rating a skin and becoming the focus of abuse from the person because... well, who knows why.

I looked at a blind recently that had been given a mediocre rating. A few comments were the typical ra-ra type, "rating should have been higher" and "great blind". Usually when other skinners say this I'll take a look and this case was no different. Just looking the preview, it had some solid looking graphics but the text margins for the start menu were off in the border and some other areas as well. Essentially the blind was not complete.

So I mentioned that I thought the graphics were good with good presentation but that there obvious text margin issues even from the preview and if a higher rating were desired a little more attention wouldn't hurt. Again, I didn't rate the blind.

So now I'm the focus of abuse for this individuals disappointments. They've removed all of their uploads and left in a huff. So if constructive comments are received in such a fashion I certainly can see why someone would hesitate to make a mention.

But then again, I don't think blowing smoke up someone's skirt helps either. If you're going to help or review someone else's blind, then honesty is the only way to go. If anyone actually reviewed that blind the text margins would have been obvious and corrected before submission.

Just my thoughts.

All I can say is this...anyone viewing a blind or any other skin should call it as they see it, constructive criticism doesn't hurt those who know how to take it.

The problem wtih that situation is individuals gave the skin 10's which in no way were valid for that skin.  It was based on making someone "feel good" and such, which is the real problem here.

My thought and have been for a few years. Doesn't matter what it is. Windowblind, wall, etc, etc. Do away with all ratings. They are either accepted or rejected. The users can decide from a screen shot or by trying it. These things are very easy to delete. From what I know a lot of the rating are given from the screen shot without even trying it on the desktop so what does the serve as say in the case of a WB it may not even work correctly but received a high rating because it looked good in a SS.

If people like you it may end up being rated higher than it should be. If people dislike you (not me) it may be rated lower than it deserves. This rating system has been a problem for the four years I have been with you all. Lots of complaints, questions, and threads about the same thing. It really serves no purpose. Bottom line they are either accepted or rejected as I mentioned above.

I like to drive the car before I buy it, see if it really is as good as stated. Same with skins. Try it on for size then rate it. Rating from just an SS doesn't do right by either the skin or the author.

I have one that is 42 and she listens to me. It only took 41 years for her to do that so hang in there.

sorry Gmc, I was just trying to lighten the atmosphere with my comment about being innocent, I was not being malicious. You have a good support group which can only mean you are a likable person, I am sure I misjudged you and took your comment completely the wrong way. DoorTech.

Not so my friend. My problem is I can see both sides of an issue. Its a real pain in the ass sometimes but that's just the way I am. And believe me...it doesn't win me any brownie points. So question...what's a brownie point?

  not quite, I've pissed off more people than you can imagine during my time here at WC. It's not me they are supporting, it's you they are not, hopefully to change, supporting cause you fly off the handle. This is only about you doortech, not me or anyone else.

Just move on.
