Will the skinbrowser change the way we work with this message board?

Hopefully, the "delete thread" button won't be on everyone's screen. It's one of those internal confusion script test functions...

looks interesting.
however, there are still a couple of things i would really like to see, if you want to transform the message board experience:
a) a progress meter. just try loading elf's chatroom marathon on a 56k modem and you will see why
an option to only load the last 50 posts on longer threads. onver a thread passes 100 posts it starts to get really really slow to load and post to
i know, some of us always seem to want more
i supose if i could restrain myself from encouraging threads to get hundreds of replies it would help, but it just isnto going to happen

i am not sure if this is the place for this, so i will cross post to the skinbrowser news group.
i love the idea of using the skin browser to access this message board, but on my home PC (winXP, skinbrowser 0.96, 56k modem connection) i have now given up on this idea.
quite simply i cannot tell if the skinbrowser is working or not. subjectively it seems far slower at loading both the message board its self, and the threads within than IE6.
on several occasions i have quit skinbrowser, and then reloaded it in an attempt to get back to the actual message board front page.
since i cannot tell if it is doing something or not (at least IE6 gives a progress bar) after 3 or 4 minutes of total inactivity i simply give up.
i have just tried loading elf's marathon thread in skinbrowser with no other net activity, so that i could watch my modems lights (external modem) to get a feel for what was happening. however all data transfer stopped after about a minute. after another minute of no action, i have returned to IE6. in a moment i will see if IE6 does any better on elf's thread.
any helpful suggestions gratefully received

well I guess a progress bar would be nice. I think it is a nice idea as a whole. It should be part of the object desktop manager. So when I resubscribe, I can get this too.

the skinbrowser isnt part of OD, and as i understand it, never will be. it is there as an extra bonus for those people who decide to support this site.
on a different front, i have managed to post to elf's marathon via IE6. skinbrowser is having some serious problems on this machine. any ideas why?

after some problems with IE loading the message board while a heavy download is going on in parrallel, i think the root of my problem is that the connection to this site is simply timing out before the page has finished loading.
it just seems to be easier to restart IE when this happens.

I've never loaded the 'Elf marathon'....it got too big, too fast for a 56k....wasn't worth the wait...

I have a 56K modem but it never gets above 32k. The phone co. says they can't fix that. I'am stuck.

I've got a cable modem, though often the cable seems to be a shoestring and the modem a tin can.

craeonics loaded Elf's marathon thread on his sucky 10k/s connection at home and it only took a minute
...and that was on the p75, so stop whining.
A really good improvement would be if te skin browser would ditch the site look when a thread is displayed. Why load all that markup when you do it slick in an app.
