Logons-Aren't they popular anymore?

Were they ever?

I don't see a lot of logon activity these days. Are they a fading thing?

My 45 secs is a reboot from a running desktop back to a running desktop. I haven't actually timed a cold boot. I must risk throwing my back out and time one.

I use it, but most times I just use a wallpaper or image I already have in my wallpaper folder.

+1  I usually use they same image as the wall applied. The transition from logon screen to desktop is much smoother.

You 'could' knit a logon screen ...

That sounds like a yarn to me.

I'll bet if you pulled some strings you could come up with something creative that actually looked like a logon instead of a re-purposed desktop wallpaper. I've not seen anyone do that.

Although, I would be a bit careful when using the term "knitting" in the same forum as RND. We know that yarn is often made from the wool of sheep. I don't think RND likes it when his companions are left with that sort of hairstyle.

Nah, he likes something to grab hold of.... though I heard he's just learned it's a better idea to stick their back leg in his gum boots.

In reality...none.  They are all a selection of images which mostly suit as wallpapers [backgrounds to a desktop], not images specific to an OS/Computer logon screen.

When logons included skin components for the Users panel etc. [pre Vista] they were 'genuine' skins, not a single wall image applied behind whatever default OS logon panel/details.

They are now  [in Vista and 7] frustratingly 'simple' one-image backgrounds.

An idea 'might' be to create a background that has graphics/details pointing to the user logon 'bits' applied by the OS.  The issue there is they'd be specific to however many users were listed/shown.

In 'simplistic' terms a Logon 'could' have some dopey message saying "You are logging on to Win7 64" - whatever.

What Snowman's saying is that the post-XP logons really are nothing more than a wallpaper [if that] ...

even during XP most Logonstudio skins were just "Wallpapers" though.

so i guess Stardock thought that would be "good enough".

the logon in Windows 7 can still be completey customized. images, layout ... it's all there in authui.dll
