Okay, who's seen it? I've seen it three times I admit. Loved it.

What did you guy think of it?

3 times already? I'm impressed. I saw it Friday. Overall I thought was pretty good, but not great. The love scenes didn't do anything for me (they had no chemistry) and slowed the pace down a bit too much (especially with the infamous "sand" courtship-speak).

I just wish the characters weren't so flat and had more dynamics as the orignial series did. I also wish Anakin's move to the dark side would be more subtle rather than so much forced petulant whining.

Other than that I enjoyed the rest of the movie. Much better than TPM or ROTJ but not as good as ANH or TESB. Jenga Fett was cool as was Obi Wan. Enjoyed the R2D2/C3PO interaction. And of course Yoda vs Chris Lee.

Loved the Matrix preview by the way.

That pretty much sums it up for me too.

ROTJ was (IMO) by far the worst of the series. Ultimately, Luke, Vader, etc. are irrelevant since the death star is destroyed without Luke mattering.

I liked the first Star Wars a lot. The second one was kind of a let down (the teddy-bear muppet/munchkins ruined it for me) but the special effects were cool. The third one had so many cute characters I kept expecting smurfs to show up in the story (but the special effects were cool). I'm afraid to go see the new one... I'm sure by now, the smurfs have taken over the teddy-bear planet and some cute little kid and his lovable CG sidekick will overwhelm them with cuddly good intentions.

wait a minute... I figured out what TPM, ROTJ and TESB are. Did I miss one? what's ANH? were there four movies before the new one or three?

DavidK is not wise in the lore of the Lucasites

DavidK the newest one is actually worth checking out. Less "smurfish" then TPM or ROTJ.

Brad, you're right about ROTJ. It is by far the weakest of the series. I never really thought about the irrelevancy of Luke and Vader 'til you just mentioned it, but that just drives it home even more. The whole Ewok thing left a bad taste in my mouth. And thematically, the Luke/Vader confrontation was much more dramatic and weighty in TESB than ROTJ.

David, ANH is A New Hope (AKA the original Star Wars movie of 1977).

Oh how I hate furry creature and facially-challenged SF.
Sad thing is, even when the first installment came out I was already an adult and well-past cuddly toys as aliens and a little more into cuddly girls as companions...

They should have taken the name from 'Pigs In Space'...and called the series...'Kids In Space'...

When the first movie came out I was working with a tour of the Royal Ballet. We saw the movie just before a performance and during one of the pieces, one of the dancers was doing Darth Vader in the wings with a motorcycle helmet he found laying around. He was trying to crack up the dancers on stage. It was so hysterical I was splitting my sides laughing and having a really hard time not making a lot of noise. The dancers on stage made it through the performance with just the right expressions and perfection... amazing... when the curtain closed everyone fell on the floor laughing.

I always think of that when I see anything about Star Wars... a ballet dancer in a motorcycle helmet doing Darth Vader... sorry I didn't get it on film...

I saw it today. I loved it. I am a sucker for great special effects I have been a fan since I was 6 years old, so no amount of bad reviews could have spoiled this movie for me. I can't wait for Episode 3. Anyone know when they plan to release it?

BTW, after the excellent new game of Jedi Outcast, I wanted more force power usage: Force Speed (Anakin chasing the assassin when her ship crashed), Force Push & Pull (to knock over baddies), and especially--all I wanted was at least ONE JEDI to throw his damn saber!!! Just throw it! It's the best attack! >

and how anyone can say that ROTJ was worse than TPM I'll never understand. (granted, I can go with the relevancies bit, but ROTJ was heaps more exciting than TPM.) But that's my opinion--*sigh*

How was Jedi worse?

Okay:

1) Ewoks. How would an entire legion of the best troops not notice the ewoks setting up extremely elaborate traps which would have taken weeks to preprae.

2) Storm trooper armor. What's the point in that battle armor if it can't even stop rocks thrown by 3 foot tall teddy bears?

3) The entire arc of the Sith is empty because ultimately the Death Star is going to be destroyed and the Emperor with it regardless of what Luke does. The Death Star is taken out by Lando and Han. Luke has nothing to do with it.

4) Cheese. In one scene, Chewie actually does a Tarzan Howl!

5) Ridiculous battle. The entire trilogy rests on the fact that an entire legion of elite troops, heavily armed and backed by at-at-ST's can be beaten by a couple dozen rebel troops and stone age 3 foot tall teddy bears.

So yea, TPM is far better in my view than ROTJ.

1. JarJar Binks
2. Jake Lloyd
3. "oops!" (when destroying the droid control ship)
4. The fact that a better fighter dies to Obi-Wan and he still gets bested in fighting with Dooku.
5. A Trade Federation?? A Trade Federation?? WTF do they matter at all to anything? How does a Trade Federation become a threat, much less deserve a seat on an intergalactic senate? That's worse than teddy bears, IMHO.

Okay, really I don't have a lot to argue, I just chose too. I was really, really young when ROTJ came out, so you have to expect that I liked it. That's the real reasoning behind it, eh? I grew up on it!

Star Wars....all versions [haven't seen the newest one yet] are aimed fairly and squarely at a 'young' audience....younger than I ever was during their releases...and there was nothing at all really there for 'older tastes'...even Princess Two-buns looked more comical than 'sexy'...OK, the women had Harry...and maybe the Millenium Ford Falcon was vaguely 'interesting', but the salt shaker and the gold hair-dresser were just too much.
You know, if I bothered to watch them all again, I'm sure I could write literally tomes of invective explaining holes, idiocy and just plain daftness in all of the stories so far...

Most of us saw Star Wars when we were very young so we could forgive huge plot problems.

For example, the climax of Star Wars has the deathstar having to orbit a planet to target the rebel base which is on one of the moons of that planet. The rebels have to destroy the deathstar before the death star can orbit around the planet to destroy the moon.

Well, since the deathstar can destroy entire planets and the empire isn't particularly worried about innocents, they should have just destroyed the planet which would have destroyed the moon with it. End of Rebellion.

Nowadays though, people are a lot more cynical and so goofy dialoag is picked on while forgetting how ridiculous some of the dialog in the OT was ("Laugh it up, fuzzball! Laser brain!").

But I thought Return of the Jedi was beyond ridiculous because it was just sloppy. I can forgive the Ewoks just as I can forgive Jar Jar. But I can't buy the Ewoks defeating a legion of storm troopers with stone age weapons. I have a problem with the fact that Luke was completely irrelevant in the climax (Lando and Han destroyed the death star, Luke had nothing to do with it, the Emperor and Vader were giong down either way).

One of the main complaints I have been hearing about Clones has been the wooden dialog. I think Mr. Lucas might consider not using as many blue screens and virtual characters. It makes for acting that appears very forced.

what do you mean "wooden dialog?" I don't get it.

And anyone else wonder where the clone troopers aussie accent came from? Jango didn't have one, and neither did the cloners!
