zip files as folders in winXP

Friday, May 10, 2002 by feline | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

hopefully someone will know how to fix this one.

running power desk 4 pro on winXP pro, powerdesk thinks all zip files are folders.

this is a problem becuase it no longer gives me a file size on the zip files, and if i open the zip in power desk (without unzipping it) all the contained files are listed as having zero file size, and i cannot quick view them.

i dont have this problem with rar files. this also works fine on my work win98 machine on zip files.

i tried uninstalling object zip, but that didnt help.

Don't know if this will help, but have you tried going to folder options...file types, to see what exactly is handling your zips?
XP was handling my zip file as folders until I installed Zip Central.

Yeah, associate the .zip files with an app and they shouldn't be folders anymore. I got so annoyed with XP's sucky zip handling that I installed Winzip and voilĂ , no more zip folders.

felie....it's a problem I had on XP....it's to do with xp's management of the zips....[tries to do what Pdesk does]....I'm using Powerdesk Pro 5 now and no probs with that....

thanks, i will try winzip then.

Jafo, have you had any problems with power desk 5?

i tried upgrading, but it kept locking up, so after 2 days i have to uninstall and put ver 4 back on again. i just cannot get by without my beloved power desk

i am wondering if my anti-virus was the problem. i found that there was a massive performance hit with the anti virus, such that i have since uninstalled it.

PD5 is great....the Quickview improvements make it 'worth' the upgrade.....Gifs -animated used to lock-up...

I like XP's way to handle zips. I don't have a problem. Give me a files size and all. Weird.

Also....'purists' who are using LiteSTEP instead of Exploder really don't want to still be using Exploder as a file-manager, and Powerdesk Pro is 'the go'...
