Well it's here, have you finished your taxes yet? I'm upset about the final outcome but hey, let's just hope they spend it well...

This year I worked about 3 out of 5 days for the government. 
That way I can hear some politician or know-nothing then say how I'm not paying my fair share.

Isn't it true that if they charged 5% of every dollar made, with no loopholes or dodges, they'd have twice as much money and we wouldn't need to deal with the insane complexity of the tax laws and the IRS?
This years tax laws are 3 times the size of the Bible (literaly, in number of words on paper).

If they charged 5% across the board then they probably would have more money, but it wouldn't be a fair system. The reason they'd have more money is because people who have filthy mounds of cash that they keep in a swimming pool ala Scrooge McDuck hire nice men such as those that work for Arthur Anderson to make sure that they don't have to part with too much of their money. While the current system is certainly very complex, and undoubtedly needs a great deal of work, does it seem fair that someone who barely scrapes by on minimum wage should pay the same percentage as the aforementioned person who habitually rolls naked in large mounds of cash and then lets people handle the soiled bills? There does need to be some kind of structure in place to make sure that those that can afford it pay it, while those that can't, get something by way of a break. If 5% across the board would produce more tax dollars overall, just think how much more 5% across the board for the first $50k of anyone's salary (and bonuses), 10% on the next $50-100k, and $25 thereafter would produce. As they say in America, "That's commie talk boy, now squeal like a pig".

And let's not forget how many poeple are employed, creating, maintaining, and enforcing that code. You could probably double the unemployment rate by removing the current tax code.

Isn't it interesting how election day is about as far away from tax day as possible? They should be right next to each other. Then you might see lower taxes.
I think a sales tax would be the most fair. The more you spend the more taxes you pay.

I think they figured it out to be around a flat rate of 18% would generate the same amount of income as we currently get if there were no loopholes.
I'd be in favor of that but it would hurt the poor.
The bottom 40% of the population in income doesn't pay any taxes in the United States.
The top 10% pays most of the taxes.

People thought that serfs had it bad when they had to work the local nobles land 1 out of 5 days.
Just something to think about.
