Windows 7 search issue

Friday, June 1, 2012 by kona0197 | Discussion: Personal Computing

So here's the deal:

I'll open my start menu, type something I'm looking for in the box, then the computer will try to open another window to show the search results yet it disappears when trying to open. Can it be fixed?

Virus, spyware, malware scans come up clean.

I had this happen a while back.  Apparently it was a missing file/registry entry and I was advised to run sfc /scannow to restore it, which it did.

Hope this helps.

do you by any chance have Windows Live Family Safety   running ?

I know it messes with the Start Menu when one gos to the site to set or reset setting. it makes the Start Menu disrepair 1 to 2 seconds  after clicking on the SM

when and IF I remember how I fixed it for him I would tell you.

You can check the troubleshooter to see if the issue can be resolved.

Listen to starkers, kona. Please give us follow up as to whether this solved your issue. Don't forget - run sfc /scannow as "Administrator" using the right click menu after entering cmd in the search box.

Actually sold that computer so problem solved I guess. I'll have to see if the problem still exists when I buy my next computer. It may be awhile.
