WindowBlinds 7.4 Update
Wednesday, April 11, 2012 by Island Dog | Discussion: WinCustomize News
A new update for WindowBlinds 7 has been released today. WindowBlinds lets you change the look and feel of the Windows user interface with thousands of skins that are available from sites like WinCustomize.com.
This is a maintenance update with various fixes included:
- Adds support for transparent scrollbars on Windows 7 Explorer windows
- Updates for start button and high dpi
- Fix for IE sizing issue
- Fix for Opera repaint issue on scrolling
- Fix for blurred borders on large bordered skins
- Fix for UltraMon secondary taskbar
- Directory Opus fixes -SyncBack / SyncBackSE / SyncBack Pro fixes. There are still some menu text colour issues with some skins, but thats skin-specific.
- KVIrc - Black scrollbar resolved along with some other issues linked to the QT framework. Unfortunately apps using this framework may end up with strange mouseover issues where the previous skin images are used on mouseovers for a while. This is not a WindowBlinds issue. It also has menu text colour issues. The QT changes should impact any other app that also uses this framework such as the TeamSpeak 3 client.
- Total Commander - The black menu bar items are now resolved
- Photoshop Elements - tweaks to sort out a cosmetic non maximized window issue and seperators in their menus painting light when the rest is dark.
- Yahoo Messenger - The correct theme is now used on the frames
- uTorrent- An issue with buttons not positioning correctly when the add link window is expanded / collapsed has been worked around
- Alcohol 120% - WB enforces strict Vista rules on the menus now
- Automatic detection of custom menus that use the new menu theme parts added and strict Vista menu rules are forced on the application when this is detected.
- The mouseover animated flash now applies to readonly combo boxes as well as buttons and toolbars.
- IE9 should now support the use of the Web scrollbar sections where defined
- IE9 groupboxes in webpages tweaked to match the style closer
- CCCleaner - Small tweak to alter margins on header bars to prevent text on headers ending ... when there was enough space.
- Thunderbird - Small tweak to add a line gap between the attached files list border and the selection box of any files attached.
- IE9 on Vista - The second apply of a UIS2/PerPixel theme will no longer cause the tabs to vanish if IE is closed and reopened.
- Keyboard selected items in explorer will now show with a selection image for all themes.
- Menu padding settings no longer impact the menu bar itself.
- Activation will request elevation (if required) -Some tweaks to the default themes included with WB
You can download WindowBlinds 7.4 from the Stardock download page (http://download.stardock.com) or via the beta of Stardock Central (https://www.stardock.com/products/stardockcentral).

Kudos to Neil. Fantastic update. I've been using 125% dpi fonts for a while and it always bothered me that only a few blinds looked good enough to use that way.

With this update, on reboot I have to stop then restart UxSms to get Aero running again. Windows 7 Ultimate/64/4Gb RAM. I don't reboot often, so I just noticed it today.

Updates for start button and high dpi

Hum. I've been using 96 on any display graphics. Just what resolution can the new displays show?

That was fixed a few versions ago. Sometime last year, I too also had that problem but yes it's fixed ![]()
@Lantec,
I'm sure you already know but most blinds support the default DPI setting of 96.

Hi guys!
Anyone know when it will be certified for windows 8?
thanks,

<@ZubaZ> Beyond Start8, Fences 2, Multiplicity 2, Tiles (beta), and WindowFX 5 (beta) Stardock applications are not certified to work with Windows 8 and running current version may or may not work. At this time though, they are not supported.
<@ZubaZ> We plan on updating more of our software as time goes on, keep an eye on our forums for more details.

Interesting.... I renewed my subscription and I am running windows 8 (avoid metro) and use the desktop, but window blinds still won't run at all on windows 8 to re-skin the desktop and explorer windows...... what are the plans to be able to skin windows 8 's traditional windows?

There has already been a teaser post showing WB running on W8 - it's in development but not yet at the point where a beta is ready for release into the wild. You can probably look forward to a version becoming available to OD subscribers within the next 60 days, though you shouldn't consider that a hard deadline (Stardock has no such thing - it'll be ready when it's ready).

Hello friends,
Since Stardock is closed for holidays, perhaps some of you can help.
I downloaded 7.4 update, but i noticed that i cannot do a "clean install" on this. So this means i can: but i cannot activate.
I have bought new SSD and installed my Win7 on that. But now i wanted to install WB 7 i bought some time ago. So i "dumbass" downloaded from my account "Downloads" and noticed that after installing on PC never had WB before, i cannot activate.
So where can i find 7.4 Enhanced? Should i buy that again, however i bought WB 7 license already?
PS: currently using 7.3 Enhanced i downloaded some time ago, should i update it simply?
PS2: Why does Stardock not let me download Enhanced...

My guess is that you purchased an Object Desktop subscription. The subscription entitles you to all updates during a one-year period for a large list of programs including Windowblinds. When the year is over you can continue to use the programs you donwloaded as long as you wish but you can no longer download the software. Backups are essential. If I'm wrong and you purchased Windowblinds version 7, then you are able to receive ALL updates until Windowblinds 8 comes out. In that case make sure you log into you account on the Stardock Store and download from the list of purchased products. The key should be available there. STORE LOGIN

I didn't know that activation in WB7 7.4 works differently than other WB7 versions. The prompt won't show just after install. If you try to apply a theme, the activation prompt is showing.

When Windowblinds 8 is released do I have to purchase windows blinds again on my new computer which came with windows 8 ? And I have already got Start8, thanks for that by the way. I really love being able to use windows like I have always been use to doing while I take my time getting use to the windows 8 start menu.

Would depend on whether you purchased it stand-alone or as part of the Object Desktop subscription. If stand-alone, Stardock's practice has been to discount major new version releases such as WB8 to previous version owners, but it would still be a paid upgrade.
Incremental (X.xx) updates (such as 7.1 to 7.2, for example) have usually been made available to owners of the base version at no additional charge. With the Object Desktop subscription, all published updates, betas and new app releases included in the suite are available at no additional charge as long as the subscription is active.

Ya the store install runs that alcs or acls (whichever it is) routine that sets the permissions on all the files in the skins directory. It can take awhile if there are a lot of skins and it runs silent - I thought the install had hung until I opened up task manager to see what was going on. But it works as long as you wait for it.
