Admins, new section needed

Saturday, December 29, 2001 by Silverado Trucker | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Evertime I see a new skin added to your WinXP section on your main page, I get excited, then find out it's only an updated skin. You need an "Updated" section.

This has been addressed in several older threads. Probably not going to happen anytime soon.

What say we institute public floggings for any frivolous (read: dl-seeking) updates?

Silverado Trucker - I see you don't have any uploaded skins. I don't know if you have made any or not, but if you have, then surely you realize the amount of work that goes into making one. An update to a skin usually is to add new features the program has added or to fix a bug. In the case of WinXP skins it's quite a lot of work to take a WB2 skin and add all the XP parts and functionality to it. If the artist didn't do all this extra work it wouldn't be a WinXP skin, just a standard WB skin.

What's your problem? As long as I can remember people were happy to see skins updated to the new feature set. When scrollbars were added to WB there were lot's of skins updated to include them and even more requests from users for artists to update their work.

Chill out... this is not a case of people updateing their work to get in front of the pack for downloads. It's skin authors putting in a lot of extra work to bring their skin up to the current standards and make it more functional and more beautiful for you to use. Show a little appreciation for the people making this artwork for you. (and no, I have no plans to update any of my ancient skins to WinXP so don't ask )

HEY! DavidK, I have NO PROBLEM,and I DON"T NEED to chill out. I have NO PROBLEM with updates and I KNOW alot of work goes into making WinXP skins, all skins for that matter. I always update the skins I've downloaded from this site when they become available. I just feel there should be a separate section. One for skins and one for updated skins. Untalented skinners like myself always look foward to new skins because we are no good at skinning. The only joy we get from customizing our desktop is by downloading skins from all the talented skinners. Are you a skinner? If so maybe you just don't realize how the Graphics-Challenged people feel about this issue. Thus I have no uplaoded skins. GET THE PICTURE Davy? Maybe you need to chill out bud. >

If the updates didn't move to the front, you wouldn't know it was updated.

If there was a seperate section for updates it would require removing the skin from it's section so it wouldn't be a WB skin anymore... it would just be an "update" skin.

no need to shout either... just think it through a bit.

With today's technology, I'm sure there is a way it can be done.

Silverado...you don't need to 'take a class'....just get down and dirty like the rest of us and muck around with proggies and bmps and such. Once upon a time there were NO skinners....talented, or otherwise....then someone just started 'mucking around' and 'hey, presto'.

Then there's people like me who are STILL mucking around...
