Recycle Bin Laden...........

Does anyone know how the hell to get rid of the recycle bin, or at least rename it in XP? None of the tweak tools out there seem to have that option.

I installed Norton Utilities 2002 and it allows you to rename it during the installation. If you have Norton this may help but if you do not, then maybe you can check any software that has recycle bin protection.

I also foud this on an XP Tweak website - I tried it out to see if it did work before I posted it and it seems fine.----- "If you're like me, you appreciate the clean desktop that XP offers. Unfortunately, one item remains: the Recycle Bin. You can't get rid of it through any menus or anything like that. After much hacking around in the registry, I finally found the responsible key. Simply delete "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}" and restart. When you restart, the Recycle Bin is no longer on the desktop. When you delete stuff, it still prompts to send it to the Recycle Bin, as always. To fully delete something, just delete it from C:\Recycled. To view this folder, you have to have everything set to be seen, including hidden folders and procted OS files and all that. Enjoy this handy tweak! "

Power toys for XP is great and all, but there is no way to rename or take the recycle bin off the desktop. Thanks though anyway.

Power Toys XP does include a feature to remove items from the desktop, including the Recycle Bin. Once installed open the Tweak interface and select the "Desk Top" feature. From there you can hide Recycle Bin and any other desktop item. Just that simple!

As Space Ace stated above, just delete the following reg key (and reboot).

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

I made a shortcut on my quick launch bar before I did it, and the shortcut behaves just like the "real" recycle bin.

Thanks guys. And my bad on the Power Toys prog. I found the setting. I overlooed it before. Does anyone know how to rename it using the registry?

Another way to hide the Recycle bin on XP is to remove any other icons (if you want to) and hide the desktop icons. This saves you having to go hacking around in the registry. Right click on the desktop and de-select show desktop icons. Or something similar...
