Neowin Interview with Brad Wardell About Start8 and Windows 8

Neowin has posted an interview with Stardock CEO Brad Wardell on the coming Windows 8 and the latest app from Stardock – Start8.
First, you have been vocal on your own personal blog site that while you think Windows 8 is great, the Metro interface is not. What is it specifically about the Metro UI that you don't care for?
It's a lot of different things. There are two big things in particular: First, Windows 8 is trying to jam two completely different user experiences into the same OS and make the user jump between them arbitrarily. Second, the Metro UI is not well suited to enabling users to organize their "stuff". PC users tend to have a lot of programs installed and the Metro UI tends to make it very hard to differentiate what is and isn't important. You can pin things to always be available visible but that's about it. There is no "folder" concept in Metro to organize your things.

Good points there. I do hope Microsoft listen, as lots of people around the web are complaining about the user experience on Windows 8 on desktops, everyday I read like 2 or 3 articles complaining, sad but true.

And now imagine that no one gets in line for this Windows 8 crap! Wouldn't that be awesome! The masses finally make they're voices heard! Long live XP!

I'm with Uvah! Windows 7 is absolutely beautiful and rock solid. Those of you who are still in love with XP should try Windows 7. I used to love XP too and we still have it at work but it's old and outdated now. As for Windows 8 I was going to install it on my other computer this weekend but have decided to hold off for a bit and see what happens.
Stardock sure is getting some great press for bringing back the Start button. Kudos for that! Some of us like to be organized and not have a lot of icons all over the place.

I don't think i could go back to using XP now. I know alot of people have resisted moving on from it, at the time it was the best windows OS (ok i'm sure there are others who think differently, but generally speaking), but i think given time, 7 will be seen as the better OS.

As a recovering Luddite, who only went with 7 when finally forced to do so, I must agree that 7, while quirky in some ways, is definitely 'better' than XP. The networking piece in 7, provided you don't accidentally get sucked in to using HomeGroup, is vastly superior to XP.
In my Luddite defense, the business apps I routinely use, which are the driver of my OS choice, continue to be rock solid on XP, the OS on most of the rigs in our office network. Furthermore, there is nothing inherent in Win7 in the way of productivity gain that would justify electively upgrading the OS before a machine croaks, even after experiencing and becoming a fan of Win7.

Wow...can't believe some of the rants here over 3 little words. Hey...I Like XP...get over it...trust me your life will not end because of it. And sorry to ID...wasn't intended to turn this into an XP rant...just kidding around. Carry on now with the original post...nothing more to see here. 
I hate 8! It's just butt ugly. (Oh geez...maybe I shouldn't have said that!) Long live XP & 7!

Errr, who's ranting? I think the thread just took a hard right is all mate, i don't think anyone is ranting on your comment.

Let us look back and vista.
Everyone warned MS what they were doing wrong. MS did not listen. Vista got a horrible reputation and nobody bought it. When nobody would buy it, then MS finally relented and gave people what they actually wanted in Win7, which is really just a slightly modified vista. (internally even it is called NT6.1 while vista is NT6.0)
MS will release Win8 with forced metro (NT7.0). Nobody will buy it and it will get a horrible rep. MS will then release Windows8 which fixes this (NT7.1)
I am pretty sure it was actually in early beta when it was considered better than XP & Vista
