The Final Move!

Tuesday, November 20, 2001 by T-Man | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Well, hopefully this is, I'm in the process of moving WinCustomize to its final destination. Much of WinCustomize is already on the last server so hopefully you are noticing some speed improvement.

I will be moving the message boards off the temporary server shortly so hopefully that will help the speed again.

Because of the move its possible a few things may not be working correctly so if you spot something that's broken please respond here and let me know. Thanks.

I tell ya, it sure takes a bit of cable to reach Pluto. But we did it!

Anyway, the move is complete and so far everthing seems to be working.

Last night I moved the message boards from the temp server to this server.

The temp server is where the main database resided. At our old co-location facility we were close enough that the connection to the database was fast. But with the new co-location the connectoin was a bit further which caused some major delays when connecting with the database. So that is why I moved the messages board temporily to the server with the database.

However, I have spent much time over the past couple of weeks learning about database replication so now the message boards are replicated to this server. So now my queries are done locally instead of over the internet.

So everything should still be nice and fast.

it's not

it felt much faster where you had it a couple of days ago, this morning it is back to being slow, but only half as slow as it was a couple of weeks ago...

i wasnt going to say anything, because i thought it might just be me.

i have certinally seen the message board slower, but it isnt really all that fast at the moment. quite often posting is taking a while to register as well

Hopefully its just due to bandwidth. I just peaked at the monitor and we are maxing out at the moment.
