Something is missing...

Sunday, October 21, 2001 by adni18 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Are we lonely people?
Because if we don't, we have many friends to talk and we don't need this message board.

Let's say that we are not lonely people, for what reason then, we are using this message board? (With the exception of course, for those people who ask “How can I” or “Where can I”).
Are we getting any closer and we are developing a friendship or something? Then I can understand it, we are not leaving close, our countries or cities are far away, so, there is a point for having communication in this message board.
Are we trying to show to the others how clever persons we are, behind the anonymity of the nickname?
Is this what is going on here? Or what is really going on here?
I see people sharing their works and they don’t even get one comment, do you think this is a friendly behavior for those people who have spent many hours or days for their work?
(This is only one example).
Is our World so cold, because I am still hopping that is not.
Am I a sentimental guy? Am I asking too much?

It is just a thread.

It certainly isn't necessarily anything to do with remaining anonymous. I'm happy for people to know who I am....[I'd never be stalked by crazed worshippers after all [China not included]...I'm not that good a skinner].
What is gained by all this social intercourse on website message boards is the breaking down of social and physical boundaries.
I now have good friends in many diverse countries....many of which I'm unlikely ever to have visited in any other sense of the word.
I see the opportunity for this as a 'Good Thing'[tm]....

Craeonics, I sure hope that is liquid latex you are using and did not just pour a gallon of paint over yourself.

As for the comments, I have found it very normal to have next to no downloads. On on skinz site that has passed away I would have a wall with thousands of downloads and not a single comment. Think of it this way, no news is good news.

As for the mental stimulation of the community. I think the net is bringing the world closer together and blowing away some of the isolation stereotypes of the world. It helps us to find out that people 10,000 miles away are similiar to the one down the street.

The need of the msg board. Personally no one I know gets into the same art forms I do, I am in a college town but also a small town and very few people have any interest in art. Those that do use computers, use them for email, work, chatting, or pRon, and have no interest in getting into the details of skins or etc. Those that are into computer science or software, are focused on network administration and run clean systems and no desire to venture into the creative side. So personally I find it nice to take a look into the world of people that have similiar interests and like to expan things beyond the grey frames of the stock system.

I do have to say if there is ever a full blown wincustomize convention where every member gets together, we might scare the hell out of each other. That would definetly be and interesting group of people.

There is no dumb about it, that WinCustomize is a world of people that have similar interests, and similar interests brings up sympathy usually for one to another, in normal life. Is this what is happening here? I want to hear it from you guys...

MobiusCo,
No news is good news...I stopped commenting your wallpapers because you never give comments to others people works, am I right? I am sure that you know, that the new authors need an encouragement from the older ones. Also, if I am not wrong, you are asking for comments on your works.
Think about this as friendly advise.

Doreen,
I am not talking about the majority of downloader’s, I know that well, but for the active members and authors, who are well known in this community, who really care and having the same interests.

Jafo,
I really did like this “this social intercourse on website message boards is the breaking down of social and physical boundaries”

*The thread was not for the comments only.

adni18, no I was not asking for comments it was a statement in regards to the other posting about the lack of comments. Personally I have never expected comments but do like to see them. As for if I leave comments, yes when a wall really hits me hard then I leave something. I think that commenting on the walls with high personal impact means more than if I commented on everything. But you are right I rarely comment or post things, just the hermit in me. But as for the community I find this community to be a very family oriented/maybe a little institutionally addicted or weekend pass community, but very good and solid. OK none of this made sense, which explains why I rarely post anything.

Ok back for more shock theropy,,,have fun all I know I will

adni I always "try" to post a comment when I pass by stuff I either look at or d/l but it does get time consuming at times, I think most ppl that are truely "active" in the so called community "do" actually leave comments more now than in the past...

Doreen goes off to try to stop thinking of crae in latex! hehe

blah blah blah...........
I like it here, I'm not lonely, I'm not friendless, I'm always busy, I love computers, I love desktop customization, I have found an outlet for my creativity, I just like it here.
BoXXi smacks craeonics for causing trouble.

i like this place since i feel far more *normal* here than elsewhere

feline grapples with the mental image of BoXXi stuck to craeonics cos the latex was still wet

all right, so *normal* isnt quite the word i want. perhaps i feel that i fit in better than other places

as for commenting, i always try to make positive comments on anything i download that i really like, and end up using. the thing here is that i just dont *get* most of the wallpapers, and a lot of the skinz dont suit what i need them for, so not a lot of comments

well just look what happens when you "do" actually take the time to leave a comment...

if you grab a wallpaper and are in a rush and leave a comment such as "Very Nice" then they complain you did not leave enough of an "explanitory comment" on just "why" you said it was "very nice" I seen this happen in the past too!
hehe
(we wont get into the "This sucks" comments) though some feel it is atleast a comment... hehe

that's where you're creative & "artistic" side really needs to kick in during the posting of comments...

Of course you have to have a creative & "artistic" side for those type of comments to kick in
I'm afraid I'm stuck using "nice job" or "good work"....but thats better than nothing, I suppose
