Just wondering if you guys could help me make a choice.
I've run demos of both DesktopX and Hoverdesk, and to be honest I liked both.
I want to know which I should Register, ie. Which is best to use in the long term?
Anybody care to help me with this?

It's a personal choice Forenzic. Some people love Desktop X, some people love Hoverdesk, and some people like both. One does not necessarely excludes the other.
Personaly, I'm more of a Desktop X fan, but in the end the choice is yours. Continue to try them both until one comes out as a better choice for your own needs.

There's also Talisman from Lighttek.
Each of the 3 has their own philosophies on how to let people customize their desktop. YOu just have to pick which one matches the way you work the closest.

I am very much looking forward to DesktopX 1.05 which will introduce a standard plugin architecture with a scripting language and other goodies. I think this makes DX the more flexible option.
But remember. I'm at this site because I like and use stardock products. You may get more unbiased opinions if you ask this at deviantart.

Yep, they're really all pretty different, considering their similarities. "Best" is so subjective. Being a HoverDesk developer, my opinion can't help but be biased, so I'll suggest the same advice as the others, with a twist. Use each one exclusively for a couple of weeks and create a simple theme or really tweak an existing theme and see which one 'fits' best for your needs.
Where you'll find diferences are in the flexibility, power, resource consumption and ease of customizing and operation. Having said that, you'd not go wrong chosing any of the three.

I'm working on an article on customization that talks about all of them. I'm biased of course but it's a general run down on all of them.

I can't say which of the two to go for as I haven't really used Hoverdesk but I can say I personally love DesktopX and the new things which are being added would make me buy it if I didn't already have it.
