Tuesday, September 27, 2011 by neone6 | Discussion: Skinning

having some issues with the explorer window backgrounds to show up transparent in windows 7, im currently using mikeb's template ones from his stealth wb, they work on his but not mine, and ive done everything the same as him, has something changed that i dont know about? or is there some kind of new setting we have to use to make it work, ? I seriously dont remember having this much trouble last time i did it.

thanks.

Hello you two´s do you mean the normal windows explorer backgrounds ? ( Edit explorer background bitmaps )
If so for me using the ( glass options ) is working but only if i turn transparency in windowblinds on...

Thanx Rollo, but that´s not what is the problem at hand...You can actually have only the "background bitmaps" Transparent without messing with Windowblinds transparency... Check this by mike b : http://skins12.wincustomize.com/0/18/18095/1/4302/preview-1-4302.jpg

Glass BG's are basically broke in 7, no control over text color, and if you multiple drag-select something, it looks completely horrible. Basically unusable for me anyways.

I'd skip it. Not going to look good no matter what you do.

I just tried Mike b´s blind, and it works absolutely awesome on 7. Strange you have experienced that sort of problems...Hmmm

-However, I can´t get it to work on another blind. I´ve used Mike´s "bmp´s & png´s" as a template, but it still doesent work...I´m greatful for more input, John.

that is what i ment neone but for me it will show up as a solid if  windowblinds doesnt have transparency activated even if its transparent. Iam also currently at the same section but all i want to do is change the font color for the background ( from black to white ) and i cant find it.

Neone,  Mike B's transparency works in 7, because, the function does work, works fine in my Naked Wb's too...

However, even in Stealth, if you try to drag-select multiple items\ folders in a window, you will see the selected area looks like crap, at least to me it does, which is why I do not use trans in windows in 7, it's useless, and broke.

However, if you want that effect, you need to use the Glass explorer BG sections of WB and use only a .png or a .tga.

Bmps will not work here. They are only for the normal 'non-trans' section

Anyhoo, Its my contention we should probably leave explorer windows blank, and let the user decide if they want to adjust it in WBconfig.

Roloccolor, There is no text color control for backgrounds in windows 7.

Yes, it is. In my experience, any transparency applied to the background results in see-through text under certain conditions. Try a search in explorer, the results are often unreadable. I gave up and only use solid bg's.
