Stardock premium themes (MyColors replacement?) updates

Thursday, September 1, 2011 by Bebi Bulma | Discussion: Stardock Support General

Was just browsing the SD site and found the Premium Themes section when looking at ODNT. I had been waiting and waiting for the MyColors themes to be provided as the separate components for ODNT subscribers for years now and it looks like that has finally happened (MyColors got killed off apparently). This is great...but I noticed a lot of the themes are missing and was wondering...have the listed themes been updated for 7? I see they have 7 preview screenshots, but was wondering if they truly had 7-compatible substyles. In addition...I've already purchased some themes/some given to ODNT subscribers as a perk, will I be able to get the new updates free? On the Stardock Store listing all my registrations there are no dates for the files so I'm not sure if the links include the 7 updates.

Tree Frog Premium Theme is totally skinned for 7.  Although is says it comes with "useful gadgets," there were no gadgets included in this theme when I purchased it.

Well that sucks...false advertising.

I bought the Cosmos theme and was looking forward to a 7 update (although most Vista-themed skins work just fine). Plus there were a bunch of other themes we got (all the Burgundy ones) that I never got to use because I refused to install MyColors when I already had the entire ODNT package....plus I don't think it worked on 7 to begin with.

I've been eyeballing Koi for a while and just wanted to see if they've actually been updated (especially now in a format I can actually use).

You can still use those, you just have to change the file extension from .suite to .zip, and unzip it to get to each piece separately, then re-zip each folder separately, change their file extension to either .wba or .ip (depending on whether the file is a Windowblind or an Icon Packager skin) and double click them.  Or you could use Theme Manager if it works for you.

I know it sounds like a pain, but if you really want something bad enough, you find a way, right?

Yeah I knew I could do that with the suites, but there was no way to get them without installing MyColors, and it seems that hurdle is out of the way now.

We are slowly converting all the MyColors stuff we can to .Suites.  MyColors is dead.

That looks "official" enough to me.

Thanks Brad, does that also mean these newly converted suites have also been updated to 7? And will we get the updates for free on purchased themes?

If I delete Impulse, will it delete all the software I downloaded as well?

Oh! I also plan to block impulse from delivering mails to my email account

Deleting Impulse does nothing to your existing, installed applications.

As you might expect, any backups created with Impulse will be useless unless you reinstall it.

And provided you have not changed your OS nor drive designations and you didn't change the default target for Impulse archives. If you did and you remember where they are, let Impulse know about that.
