.dockzip files

unable to open and install .dockzip files

Monday, August 29, 2011 by Byrlyne | Discussion: ObjectDock

I am unable to open .dockzip files. I read somewhere in my search for an answer that .dockzip files are self-extracting. I have been using objectdockp plus for a few months and none of the files I have downloaded have self-extracted in the library folder. I don't even have a library folder anywhere in the stardock files. Did I install objectdock incorrectly? Is anyone else having problems with the .dockzip files? I

Most dock creators don't use the .dockzip extension...me being one of them. I personally don't use the .dockzip for several reasons. 1) is that they create extra unnecessary folders that you don't need taking up more space and 2) Because they don't keep them all in one folder.

If you find any .dockzip files you can rename the extension to .zip and then send all the enclosed folders to your backgrounds folder on ObjectDock and they will work.Your backgrounds folder should be in the Stardock folder for ObjectDock...C:Program Files (x86)\Stardock\ObectDock\backgrounds...if you just get in the  habit of sending all dock backgrounds to that folder you will have no problems and less clutter.

Thanks for the advice. I have spent far too much time trying to resolve this issue. I did what you said and it worked like a charm. Thanks again.

Is dockzip seriously still around?  You'd think a company would get a hint when they have a lame idea and give up on it.  Of course, Hyperdesk is still around so I guess that way of thinking doesn't work.

M1, I think there might be some stuff in the Gallery in the .dockzip format. Old stuff. Haven't seen that format used in a long time, though.

WG's solution works for that, as well as for .XTEREME extensions.

As it does not work for OD version 2.

Nope does not work, dockzip is an actual file type not just a renamed zip.

In order to be able to open a dockzip file you need version 1.9 of OD installed.

That could very well be Cavan. I don't use OD 2.0 since it doesn't utilize the Plus/Minus images that I know of. At least not in the same way it used to in 1.9.

Jeff changed it so that all that is needed in the .ini is

[Extras]
PlusImage = Plus.png
MinusImage = Minus.png
