Looking for the Alienware skins...

Vista/7 compatible

Tuesday, August 23, 2011 by adrian5683 | Discussion: Skinning

I've been scouring the web for the Alienware Invader/Xenomorph skins for Windows Vista/7 to use with WindowBlinds 7. I remember a post saying all Alienware themes were available for WindowBlinds 7 but with no links. I also recall someone doing a Vista compatibility for Xenomorph. Does someone know if any of these themes are available anymore, Vista compatible?

I'm not interested in the OEM MyColors themes they have on Alienware.com, only the skins I can work with in WindowBlinds/SkinStudio.

Thanks.

Ok, I managed to install the Alienware Invader for Windows Vista theme and extracted the skin. Now, it seems to work except for a couple of things. The start button is elevated over the taskbar, probably an incompatibility with Windows 7. Is there a way to fix that? Also, all of the graphical elements (the .bmp images that appear in SkinStudio) are distorted, Any ideas?

To center the button go to WB config,, advanced settings, 3rd box up from the bottom. "I want to force the start button to be positioned in the middle of all skins." Check it and hit Apply Changes.

As for the Invader skin, I believe it is encrypted. If the distortion looks like rainbow colored snow, you're out of luck.

I was just going to say I tried that already and it didn't work... but now it does. I guess you "wizardry" inspired the theme to apply correctly. Invader is encrypted... drats! Nothing can be made to edit the skin? I can't even use the performance version of the skin... Is there a way to delete that by the way?

Thanks for all the help, I'm a noob when it comes to Object Desktop and the like.

To delete it (if it appears in the wbconfig window), apply another skin. then find the Alien dkin you insyalled in the wbconfig window and under

"Skin Options" choose "delete".

Wiz's wizardry (via Jeff Bargmann's wand) will ensue shortly thereafter with a confirm dialog.

Oh, I was actually referring to deleting the Performance style within the Invader skin... but since the whole skin is encrypted I'm assuming deleting individual portions of the skin is also impossible... sigh.

If I recall correctly Theme Mangler Manager comes with the Xenomorph skin, or used to,  but you need to have an ODNT sub to get TM. It works ok on 7 but as expected, some things aren't skinned.

One thing though, is the Object Desktop package worth it or should I just go with WindowBlinds/Icon Packager? If ObjectDock was included in OD I'd go for it... I'm assuming you can install individual components of Object Desktop.

ObjectDock and CursorFX are both seperate purchase but you get enough other apps that make the bundle a very good deal. You can choose to install whatever ones you want. WinFX, DeskScapes, WB and IconPackager get a lot of use on my systwm. as does DesktopX.
