For the next 24 hours Winstep Xtreme, which usually sells for $39.90, will be available at half price ($19.95) from Bits Du Jour.

A superb collection of utilities and desktop enhancements, Winstep Xtreme will change the way you work with Windows forever. An integrated workspace environment, Winstep Xtreme is a powerful suite of desktop enhancement utilities that merge incredible usability and performance with breathtaking eye candy. The Winstep Xtreme suite includes the following applications:

Nexus Ultimate:

Nexus is the dock system, and is just perfect for super fast access to your most used applications.

You can have as many docks as you want, and each can have multiple sub-docks! When not in use, docks can hide behind your screen edges, taking virtually no screen space.

Workshelf:

Workshelf is a tabbed dock (Shelf), better suited to complex organizational duties like organizing documents, URLs, movies, work projects, etc... If a dock is the top of your desk, then Workshelf is all the drawers below it.

The Shelf makes it possible to have a 'clean', uncluttered, desktop with no icons on it whatsoever by hiding the icons on the Desktop - icons that can then be quickly accessed via the Shelf's Desktop tab.

NextSTART:

NextSTART is the menu system - and takes care of all your task management needs as well.

Menus are great for accessing infrequently used files and system related commands that aren't easily reachable in the file system or that have no readily user-recognizable graphic representation. The task management part of NextSTART allows you to efficiently organize and manipulate running tasks and windows.

Modules:

Modules, widgets, gadgets, docklets, desklets, are all different words to describe the same thing: mini-applications that usually live on your desktop and provide a staggering amount of information regarding your system.

Winstep Xtreme includes the following modules: a speaking Atomic Clock, Recycle Bin, Email Checker, Weather Monitor, CPU, Net and RAM Meters and the amazing 'fortune cookie' Wanda.

Winstep Start Menu Organizer Pro:

The Winstep Start Menu Organizer is an application designed to help you organize and clean your Windows Start Menu.

Over time the Start Menu can get so cluttered that you end up spending a lot of time simply trying to find the program you want to run. The Start Menu Organizer allows you to quickly group your Start Menu shortcuts into a specific set of categories thus making finding what you are looking for much, much, faster!

###

Winstep Xtreme runs on the 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows 2000, XP, 2003, Vista and Windows 7 and is currently available in the following languages: Bulgarian, Chinese (Simplified), Czech, Dutch, English, Farsi (Persian), French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Portuguese (Brasil), Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Spanish.

Just curious....what do I do if I want to renew vs. getting a new subscription?

That's a good question Lantec, I have a renewal coming up in Oct if I'm not mistaken.

I think the Upgrade Policy for Winstep Xtreme HERE and the upgrade policy for Nexus Ultimate HERE will answer all your questions.

When the time comes for renewal, the software itself will tell you about it, as well as point you to the right direction - pretty simple, really.

Keep in mind you do NOT have to renew when the software tells you your subscription is up, only when a new version that you are interested in (but is no longer covered by your upgrade subscription) comes out. There is absolutely NO PENALTY whatsoever for not renewing on time.

You know us 'rich' Americans, we would rather spend our money before out government takes it in taxes.

Well, good, because us 'poor' Europeans need a lot of that.

Lantec, I hate to answer for Jorge since his are always so much better, but I did find this on Winstep.net:

"Purchasing Winstep Xtreme entitles you to 1 full year of FREE upgrades. All upgrades released during that year will work with your license key and are yours to keep – forever and ever. After that year elapses, when a new version you would like to have is released, you can upgrade to it for ONLY $19.95. Those $19.95 in turn entitle you to ANOTHER year of FREE upgrades, which is why this process is called an 'upgrade subscription'.

Q) What happens when my year of free upgrades ends?

A) Nothing, your license key will simply not work on versions released after this period. You can, at that point - or whenever you want - renew your upgrade subscription for another year.

The Winstep Xtreme Update Manager by default asks for your permission to check for updates, but it is recommended that you unselect the 'Always Ask before checking for updates' option: this way new version checks will be made once a day in the background - instead of only once a week - and the Update Manager will only prompt you when new versions are found"

From here: http://www.winstep.net/xtupgradefaq.asp

So I figure it works through the update manager which can be set for "Automatic" every time you engage Winstep Extreme or Nexus Ultimate.

It notifies you of an update and when you do, it tells you if your sub is still valid... and you can try the update for 30 days to see if it warrants the $19.95. If you feel it doesn't, you can roll it back or renew.

============================

Edit:

What I forgot is that not only are they better, they're faster. Feel free to disregard this. I was busy searching for a procedure in Winstep Forums, while Jorge answered.

Desculpe, Jorge ... minha lenta, dedos velhos eram realmente apenas tentando ajudar ...

Ideally you'll renew even if doesn't, of course. lol

Actually rolling back will never happen because each release is packed with an arms long list of new cool irresistible features. So, all your 'rich' American's money are belong to us (us, 'poor' Europeans).

Wrong on two levels, Murex: first, the Winstep Xtreme trial is fully functional (all the license key does is allowing it to run past the 30 day trial period) so you can download it at any time from the Winstep web site.

Second, it actually says 'up to 48 hours' not 'exactly 48 hours'. License keys are personalized and issued manually, and you usually get your key within minutes of purchasing the software, even on weekends and bank holidays, although sometimes it might take a few hours (we 'poor' Europeans need to sleep too! ).

The 48 hours statement is just a deadline - if you haven't received your key until then, chances are the license key is actually sitting in your spam folder or your ISP decided to silently block the email from Winstep with your license key - in which case you need to contact us via the Winstep forums, for instance.

Thank you for the information. I wasn't aware you could download the trial version.  I  thought I had to wait until it was sent to me. Any way I just received the  license key and all is well. Thank you.
