This is simple I need to be pointed to some content on the Net where I can learn how to create some of the abstract effects you can find on wallpapers like the ones on this site. I posted a request for tutorial help before, but no one replied. I don't believe that there's no one out there that would be willing to share some knowledge. I have 2D and 3D software, so that's not a problem. Problem with search engines is that I'm not sure what to call this stuff - swirly, ghostly, light effects - that's the best I can come up with Anyway, if there's some artist out there that out of the goodness of his/her heart would not mind sharing some techniques, I would be very greatful. I'm doing this for personal fun. I'm not gonna put anyone out of business with this )

Your question is abstract, you ask for things that no one can answer you, the worlds are not enough to explain what you ask. The only solution for learning techniques,is to do experiments with your programs.

The keywords are abstract and polygons, but I doubt you'll find much of use there. Perhaps these sites can be of help:

Well, also in order to guide you to some tutorials, we need to know what software you use. Tutorials are always specific to applications.

First of all thanks for the replies and links. As far as being descriptive, well I guess that's kind of a difficult problem. It's like trying to learn a language and never hearing the actual pronunciation. It's hard to explain what I'm after. If it helps, let me point my finger to one example I found here. As far as software goes, I have Photoshop 5.5, Lightwave 3D 5.6, TrueSpace 4, Flash, and older ver of Studio 3D Max.

About the "ghostly" effects with "lights", why don't you ask schnupa? It's his work that you are looking.

Hmmm....4 or 5 grand in software and no lessons or manuals. Thats almost surreal.

digitaljames - I did not ask HOW TO USE my software. I asked for tips on techniques that manuals do not necessarily share...so dont jump into cunclusions dude
BTW, if you think it costs 4-5 grand for the software, you should check out eBay - great deals on fully licensed used and new software

Point taken. For what its worth, most people use "trial and error". If it looks cool then it becomes memory. If it was done in Photoshop than it could be recorded as an "action". Can't speak for the other programs.

Thanks for understanding. Interestingly, I've purchased a Computer Arts mag (published in the UK) and was able to confirm my suspicions - these intricate abstracts are designed using a combination of 2D and 3D packages - sometimes more than two - so much for the manuals then.
