Can I Uninstall Impulse Now?
Monday, July 11, 2011 by LightStar | Discussion: Stardock Support General
Since Gamestop now owns Impulse and it is evidently no longer being used to provide updates to Stardock customization products, can I uninstall it now? I only use it for Stardock customization products, no games or anything else.

"Use what I have" is Impulse which has apparently been abandoned for ODNT users. Really should have had something else in place for us. Seems pretty unprofessional to me. Gaming seems to be much more important to Stardock now.
Impulse got so much crap from the whiny gamers and we always defended it, and now we've been hung out to dry. Disappointing.

The system is temporary. It will get better . . again.

That's true, I doubt 40-50 "regulars" on the forum represent approx. 4.5 million registered users of which, I assume, a majority are also customers of some type Stardock product but are they "in the loop" like regular WC visitors? Some companies I've purchased software from email me with each and every change, update, etc. no matter how small but the only thing I receive from SD is "sale" notifications or information about buying additional products. Is anyone else kept up to speed on what's going on other than by visiting the site and should that possibly be a priority for good customer service...for ALL?!?!?
Back on topic....glad I can dump Impulse! ![]()

Users that follow teh site will be informed of updates through the site. Those that don't, won't for the moment. But . . they have a working app, right? All is well.
If there is some update that is critical, SD has the means to send out a mass mail and will.
Again, not the last iteration of the system we want, but a good interim system.

Ok, let me see if I got this. SD will e-mail us with update information? Eventually?

Wow, not sure how long I can stand not being on the cutting edge.
I'm so used to running a beta it will be hard to just be an average Joe.

HOW do you "verify" your programs now without Impulse ? Doc pointed out before this that if something didnt work properly and nothing else seemed to be the problem you should "Verify" the install..... ???? ![]()

What I don't get is why so many people are so keen on uninstalling Impulse as if it was a rootkit or some sort of a virus, or used 2 GB of RAM permanently. I'll keep it for a while, as IT DOES NO HARM. Or did I miss something ?

Only about 1,000 "Impulse sux ass/is evil/will ruin your computer/has plans of taking over the world" Threads
Seriously, I have supported impulse since the very early beta (remember green impulse and blue impulse?) and am sorry to see it go.

I did not mean that I did not like Impulse when I started this thread. I only asked because I noticed that it had now become useless for upgrades and was not being used for that any more by Stardock. I liked the way Impulse operated, but I figured why have software on my PC that did not serve any useful purpose any more at all.

Exactly my thought, like it's going to implode everyones computer at some future date.

Impulse will function for you until your sub runs out or you renew.
As for archives, I'd download and save the relevant .exe's on a disc (cd) or image your disc if I were you.

I'm so happy I can uninstall this garbage. However, the lack of an auto-update feature for my Stardock products really stinks. We DID spend good money on the software products and one important aspect of support for the products has now been removed. I made many purchases on Steam long before this GameStop software showed up on my desktop. I don't need a clone. What I need is the support features that have been "stolen" from loyal Stardock customers. I'm sure there are many who are in complete agreement.
