Technology:Good vs. Evil

Thursday, June 23, 2011 by Skinhit | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I love technology...I love it! It has made my life so much more productive and less cumbersome. What I can do with an iPhone blows me away. One device can do the work of so many things. Imagine me walking around carrying a computer, a gaming system + games, a calculator, a calendar, a camera, a video camera, a contact book, a map, a notepad, a walkman, a compass, a recorder, a flashlight, a recipe book, turntables, a TV, etc...

amazing...But at what cost?

Now the darkside is also using it to to their advantage...

Yet another reason to despise Facebook.

It's a fair bet to say that ALL 'technology' creates as much shit as it solves.

The 'NOW' generation is a product of instant messaging/communication of the likes of Mobile [cell] phones, etc.

Life was SLOWER AND BETTER before their invention.

Even back then... it was those dang 8-tracks and that Rock and Roll!

You know, I've often blamed the microwave oven for what I see as a general evaporation of "patience".  A person used to have to wait a few minutes for dinner.

And what about those TV dinners. Ever see a 'Hungry Man' special. You couldn't feed a kid on that thing its so small. Everything prepackaged, refried, freeze dried, concentrated. what ever happened to good old fashioned cooking and preparing the stuff yourself. Ahhhhh......technology. Ain't it wonderful.

Yeah...and people are still in a hurry to go nowhere fast. When I was younger I thought all this tech stuff was suppose to make life easier...more enjoyable...instead it just gave us more time to work our asses off.

My family has slowly been scaling back on technology.  We've gotten rid of two tv's and the dvd player (free sign on the sidewalk, 20 minutes, gone).  The cursed microwave.  I didn't re-up my cell phone.  My daughter has a "pay to play" phone (that she must pay for).  1 computer given away.  So far that's it, but it's a start.  Too much crap and dependence on that crap.  When the shit hit's the fan and all this techno crap doesn't work anymore, 75% of the earth's population will be useless pieces of shit because they don't know how to do basics like boil water without using some sort of technology.

Hey guys!

Just found a new app: iNSTEADOF!

Pros: You install it and get the urge to chuck all your tech stuff in the dust bin!

Cons: You have to get off your ass and actually/physically do something.

Can we rethink that?

How about:  iCOMPROMISE  and  iHAVECOMMONSENSE ?

They get you to be efficient at work and enjoy it as well as getting it finished so you can get out and spend time and love with the people who count (the REALLY important part of your life).

If I did not have to keep track of Facebook to keep track of my sons doings, I would just get rid of it.

I hear my daughter is on Facebook.... haven't heard from her in 12 months or more and I don't have a working number for her... can't drive to her last known address, but I will not, under any circumstances get a Facebook account.

She can/could drive here... she can easily get my new phone number from other family members... has never bothered, so I'm of the opinion Facebook would change little.  It wouldn't!

Last time we spoke I chipped her about things [drugs, alcohol, a bad attitude] and she didn't want to hear it.  Since then she has changed her surname to her mother's maiden name.  So what!!  I won't lose any sleep over it... too many thoughts for those who do appreciate my help and who respect me.

Oh, and this is not Shaunna's daughter, my step-daughter, Bianca... who in recent times has done us both proud in so many ways.

Try the appstore. It's next to the deli you can't find.

You know...for a change I agree with Natas2. We are too dependent on technology. Only problem is i hope no planes are flying when it all does go kaboom.

Another problem is.....I won't have my lappy no more and that ain't cool.

This is very true, but let us not foget that 'fire' was very high tech at one time.  Just saying.

I'm a real believer in being a "jack of all trades" (and master of none) and learning a little about everything that keeps one self sufficient. Most of my co-workers are a lot younger than me so when they come to work bitching about paying a couple hundred bucks to get their spark plugs changed, three hundred to have an electrician change a three dollar light switch or five hundred for a plumber to clear a clog all I know to do is shake my head. Of course all things techno they're up to speed on but changing a light bulb...no.

I fail to understand what the first one has to do with technology.

They just looks like a bunch of low life thieves that need to be removed from society.

The problem starts with a lack of discipline of the youth today.  I'd bet that if corporal punishment was still in use, these type of crimes would be non existent.

Although I suppose the video being on YouTube could cause some other low life's to try it themselves.

I myself have been trying to scale back on newer techonlogies.  I think that we've entered an age where privacy is obsolete.  Here's my two cents about what I use/don't use:

-> I don't own a smartphone, nor do I want one (anymore) after finding out about how it tracks your every move and site you visit and app you purchase (they're GPS navigated right? So big brother will know EXACTLY where you are at any given time)

->I'm a dedicated Desktop PC user.  Never a laptop, tablet, or smartphone for me.  The two latter choices are pathetic excuses for primary computing devices with measly "app stores" which only supply hundreds of thousands of "apps".  Not to mention a huge lack of customization.

->Still pay cash for everything (except online purchases).  Less chance of having my identity stolen.

->Social Networking is out of the question.  I'll never use social networking ever.  Isn't e-mail good enough?

->Technology has no innovation anymore (excuse me, I almost forgot stereoscopic 3D).  Everything these days is just a mashup or combination of multiple pre-existing functions in one device.  One reason why I will hopefully never use a tablet or "hybrid" device.  When was the last time we had a "true" invention?

->And don't get me started on the media.  All forms of media have gone downhill considerably, even since the '90's.  All the crappy movie remakes which shouldn't exist in the first place.  "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."  We need new innovation, new original shows (that don't suck), new original movies, and so on.

-> And worst of all is that nowadays, tech is made with profits in mind.  Companies just want to find their new "cash cow" and for suckers (I mean consumers) to buy their gimmicky useless junk (not all of it's junk, but a lot of it is).  I miss the days when people made "quality" media, devices, and inventions.  Where people came before profits.  I probably wasn't alive during those days but still.  It's all about the money now. *sigh*

On the upside:

->Having "high-speed" internet blows dial-up and DSL out of the water!

->Playing video games on the go with mobile platforms. (I don't mind portable gaming, but portable computers just suck bad!  Almost no room for hardware customizations and/or upgrades, even for laptops)

->Having automobiles to go places way further than we could walk (although driving within a quarter-mile radius to your destination is just sheer laziness [and a waste of gas & stress on the engine])

->Flash memory is Awesome!  Way faster and cooler (both figuratively & literally) than mechanical hard drives.

-> A little off topic, but the Skins on this site are VERY innovative, original and cool!  So are DesktopX widgets, IconPackages, and Docks.  I wonder what new tech we'll be getting with WindowBlinds 8?

Back when I was little, I used to think the future and all this technology would be a far superior way to live, but up 'til about four/five years ago, I started to realize the truth.  Technology is making us STUPID!  Especially in the age of Facebook, Twitter, SmartPhones (Or I should say "DumbPhones" 'cause a lot of dumb people use them.  iRONIC.)

I know my post is long and boring, but I wanted to voice my opinion of the matter, that's all.

Nothing wrong with voicing your opinion VistaArtXPosed, everybody has one. I like the way you managed to keep the colorful words down to a minimum. Pretty innovative. j/k dude.
