Get Ready for the 4th of July!

Wednesday, June 15, 2011 by Island Dog | Discussion: WinCustomize News

The 4th of July is rapidly approaching and as with many holidays this is also a good opportunity to customize your desktop a bit.  A new WindowBlinds skin from k10w3 called ‘American as Apple Pie’ has been shared with us and gives us a great looking skin with a patriotic feel to it!

Absolutely great skin, Karen! The Start Menu glyph was an inspiration!

The computer may be the only way I see any fireworks, too dry and no rain in the forecast and the city/county and I believe the state have banned fireworks here.

I will have to start looking for stuff to put together for a desktop, hmmmm.

Is it time for me to rant again?  It seems like it's been almost a year.

Oh well.  Here goes.

Every year I am disheartened to see the anniversary of our country’s birth regulated to just another day of the month by so many people who call it the “4th of July” instead of “Independence Day”. I see it on adverts and in the local papers.

No one calls Christmas “December 25th” because those that celebrate it as a religious holiday know that the cause for celebration is in the name.

By calling Independence Day, “Independence Day” we can reinforce to each other and to our children that it’s not just a day to have barbecue, see a parade, and watch fireworks. It becomes a day to remember where we came from and what our forefathers did for us. It gives us incentive to talk to our kids about what those fireworks represent and how we are a part of the process.

Independence Day is about America and should be treated better.

Thanks for the great skin!

For those of you WC members who live north of us, I've modified this blind and uploaded it at DeviantArt so you can celebrate Canada Day (who knew they had one?  I learn something new every day)  http://k1ow3.deviantart.com/#/d3j2sbn

Also, not to ignore my Aussie buddies, (Hi Jafo!) I uploaded a new start button graphic here, so you can replace the United States one with your own flag - get it here: https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/graphics/1021/
