Would someone recommend a good diagnostic/repair program. I would even consider remote control servicing

The problems are all software related although there was one hardware problem. I live in a nursing home so getting outside service would be difficult. Doing it myself would be easier. There is also a problem that might be related. Seven times I tried to upload a skin and failed all seven. I posted a question in the forum but the results so far have been unsatisfactory.

Tell us a bit about the problem... is it hardware or software based? If hardware, I'd recommend a local, privately owned business - you'll get better service with some personal attention and who knows what perks. Could also work for software problems, but Windows has great "self healing" utilities.

Look pretty good... Haven't used either myself, though. You'd be wise to research it more... iolo's System Mechanic Pro also looks good. I use regular System Mechanic. There's a deal out on that, so google it.
