Problem with laptop starting up. Need some help...

Well I guess that's the last time I do a Craigslist deal. Any ideas on how to fix? Video tells the tale.

One problem. The battery is soldered to the motherboard on the bottom. Will not come out.

Batteries are never soldered onto a mother board... therefore it's not a battery.
If on the other hand it's a corroded battery: It's a definite "buh bye".

Well the top is giving me issues as well. In the picture see that silver part? It will not come off the battery. Thinking I will take it in to a PC shop.

Doesn't look like corrosion. Could it be lock-tite? Or perhaps that battery's been compromised. The white maybe the electrolyte in the battery leaking out. Try using a small plastic or composite screwdriver and gently go under that clip. See if you can work it loose.

I have located the problem and in this particular case it is a design fault. The NVidia GPU is not mounted well and requires removal, reballing and resoldering to the motherboard. This fault is exactly the same as the problem that was experienced with the XBox 360 and is a genuine manufacturing flaw.
The oven trick may work but please dont actually put the whole laptop in the oven, you may end up with quite a mess, totally strip down the laptop and only put the motherboard in the oven. Personally I would not recommend this technique as you may end up causing irrepairable damage to something that could be repaired in a very sensible and more relyable way.
This afternoon I am going to attempt to get Acer to resolve this issue as I can see that there are many forums concerning faults with this model of acer laptop that uses the NVidia GPU.

According to that thread the only 'layman' solution is to cook the MB in an oven...it's a dry joint issue, it seems.
It'd be curious to know how many people tried and fried .... but seems several got it fixed....

Well I will let someone else deal with "cooking" it. Saving up money to buy a new one while borrowing one from a family member for school. Thank you Jafo.

Replace the battery. Most take the same one as 90% of the automobile keyless remotes.
