Keep it polite

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 by Island Dog | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

We try to stay out of the way of topics as much as possible, but for some reason there have been lots of personal attacks floating around here lately.  An open discussion with different opinions and such is always welcome, but once it melts down into one person against another, or others piling on, the discussion will most likely be ended.

Calling someone a profanity as a personal attack is a fast way to be removed regardless of rank or how long you have been here.

This is our community.  Keep it polite!

IROKONESS
I tend to rub my hands together and my blood runs a little faster as I get ready for the games ahead

Yeah, the games ahead....

We should have a WC Olympics... where we grapple a Googler: bash a banker and accost advertisers.  We could hand out gold medals for the most innovative Google grapple; silver for the most entertaining banker beating; bronze for the most adventurous advertiser accosting... and platinum for manouvres that account for all 3 categories in one swoop.

We should probably create categories for Aussie utilities and retailers... being they get greedier by the day.

(power just increased by 17% and is expected to rise by 30% next July 1st due to the implementation of the carbon tax.)

And an extra special one for the Aussie government... which gets stupiderer by the day.

(for allowing rampant price gouging, over-taxing on everything and mounting an unmanagable debt)

I'm gonna go hide somewhere. Call me when the dust settles.

No point hiding... the fallout will get into every nook and cranny.  Besides, you're one dirty low down bat rag weirdo with a decidedly warped mind.

Now, Uvah, that's one personal attack I could find the energy for.  Hopefully you'll receive it with the fondness and love with which I intended.

Surely you know it's not just your government Far as I can tell it's a world-wide epidemic.  Politics looks more and more like reality television every month  Snookie for President I guess!

Yeah, I'm aware that politicians worldwide share one common denominator - stupidity - but ours has taken extreme liberties with that designation.  And when I say extreme stupidity, I mean EXTREME STUPIDITY.

Carbon is the building block of life... yet our stupid government is imposing a carbon tax that'll do zero, zilch, nada to reduce pollution, yet will dramatically increase the cost of power, gas, petrol... anything and everything that runs on fossil fuel.  Further, the Aussie government has just announced measures that will add $8000 to the price of new cars/vehicles and put older ones off the road... all in the name of climate change.  Sure it's nice that they are concerned about the planet, but this climate change drive is pushing up the price of everything everywhere we look.... and I know of some families who are suffering like we were in a depression.

We are for from being in recession, much less a depression, but the greed of retailers and utility providers in this country is sending low income families and pensioners to the wall.  One old lady in my street, for example, lives alone and is going to bed at around 5.30 pm this Winter, rather than live in the cold and dark because she cannot afford heating or lighting since her power bill tripled [as did everyone's] in the last 4 - 5 years. We are constantly told to use power wisely and turn off unused appliances, etc, but this poor woman has nothing left to turn off... unless she eats raw food, has cold showers and forgoes turning on her life saving asthma apparatus each night.  Neighbours have welcomed her into their homes for meals ans etc, but she never accepts because she is too proud to accept charity from those who are not a lot better off than she is.

Our government is responsible for this abject poverty.... all because it subscribes to and perpetuates the flawed theory of global warming that's based on lies, fabricated science and computer generated models that can be successfully argued/disproven.  I thought JuLIAR Gillard was the better person to run this country, but now I see she is deplorable and colder than a witches tit.

^  agree to all above Starkers.... how the hell do we get rid of her...      ..before she can wreck anything more....

the fact that she's gonna have to live out her days with the title of Australia's worst Prime Minister... is cold comfort right now...

pity she is Australia's first female Prime Minister... at least we can still look forward to Australia's first 'elected' female Prime Minister.... some day...

government is imposing a carbon tax

Government's trying to raise the taxes on oil co's here too.  Oil co's are running ads against it.  Funny thing is, they don't and can't really say the one thing in the ads that would both be truthful and get people on their sides:  "Dummies, if we pay more taxes, we'll just raise prices and you'll pay for it, plus a little more to get our rate of return."  Have no fear, if there's any sign of an economic recovery some group of leeches is well equipped to suck the life out of it.

(didn't mean to poke a button there Starkers, hope you feel better now)

ummmm she is deputy PM... the elitist wanker Bob Brown is the real PM.

If the aussie government wan't to impliment a Carbon Tax then Gillard must call and election on it. If the country votes labour back in then they have obviously fooled enough sheeple into believing the propaganda, but at least it will have been voted on. What scares me though is that we may have Tony Abbott as the next PM and that gives me nightmares. The current government never won the election, they had to do nudge nudge deals behind closed doors to coerce the independants into coming on board with them.. Don't get me wrong... Abbott was trying the same thing just as hard... Gillard tried harder. But we have a unelected government in power that is being dictated to by an elitist idiot who if he had his way we would be living in caves and rubbing 2 sticks together for fire (which no doubt would have a carbon tax). The greens have lost their way and labour is too busy stabbing each other in the back. meanwhile the Liberals are gaining more and more popularity again merely 4 years after the landslide labour win.

yep i agree, and what about the way she lied  to burgo's face when he asked about the pensioners?

'stay tuned for the budget' she said..... the pensioners were barely mentioned, but she was all for woolworths and IGA taking the full brunt

of struggling australians with food vouchers.......it helped but it was only a bandaid solution that was going to run out quick.

i have never liked gillard ever since she stabbed my Kevy Rudd in the back, now i just detest her, and i voted for her......im ashamed.

as for bob brown....sorry but i dont like poofters....so he dosent have my vote either,

i dont think much of tony abbot either, but at least he seems to want to turn the boats away rather than give them all hugs, accomodation and status here in australia.

the current state of this country is so horrible, but no one seems to want to give any aussie a break, let alone a pay rise for working australians, and or pensioners.

and they wonder why MORE people are doing smash and grab robberies.........people are desperate for MONEY.

power, water, food, petrol, tobacco, tax, mortgages...to me, its by sheer miracles that we are even getting by.

oh starkers, i just read also about the government trying to take old cars off the road.

they wont be taking my little car.

just this week i was told i had to get the front steering replaced (it clicks when i turn) and its going to cost me 800 dollars,

the mechanic tried to convince me it wasnt worth it because that job is worth more than my car. (grrrrr i disagree!)

so im getting a NILS loan to get the repairs done on it.

its the only car i have, is julia going to buy me a new car because mine is too old? i doubt it.

anyway , 1991 wasnt a bad year, and my baby car still looks very cute and presentable (especially after its been washed)

for those who dont know i have a 1991 daihatsu 3 cylender mira.

this car enables me to travel to buy cheaper groceries too, enables me to visit my mum and wolfees mum and and pick up my daughter,

id rather be sent to jail for driving an old car than lose it.

she really is cold like witches nipples........ i truly dont understand her.

So good show to Julia who wants to put an end to the obscenity that is Rinehart's fellatio of Australia's resources....the bitch wasn't happy with a PERSONAL wealth of 4.75 BILLION....this year it's 10.3 BILLION.

That cow is profiting from AUSTRALIA's resources...not hers.  She is personally raping OUR country's natural resources.

'bout time the fucker actually paid something back.

Give her what she's worth....10 bucks for a 10 buck whore.  Give the rest to the pensioners.

You know....you wouldn't need a 'carbon tax' if you just taxed Rinehart's billions.....oh wait, that's what the carbon tax is for.

Orright, but one parting shoit.....

What the difference between Parliament House in Canberra and a rose bush?

With a rose bush the pricks are on the outside.

Tut, tut... yes, I know I'm naughty... but if I don't let off steam in a jesting manner, I'm liable to burst into song...

... and believe me, the world is NOT ready for my non-melodic, gravely voice.

I can sooooo wait for you two to kiss and make up and get a room....

... it's so much more fun watching you insult and antagonise each other.

I'm not normally a fan of reality shows, in fact I hate the effing things, but I reckon a reality show based on the exchange of unpleasantries between you's two would be a huge hit.  You'd both have to star in it though... no stand-ins or mock-ups cos then I wouldn't watch it.

I don't know if anyone's noticed, but since making Journeyman, I've gotten the hang of keeping my mouth shut and walking away when I get in a huff.

So...now you're just a stuck-up-snoot-face? diva? prima-donna? hoity-toity-paris-hilton-wannabe?

Or...hmm..whats that other word....I'll get back to you if I can remember it.

Another thing we have in common..

I'm also not a fan of DIY and cooking shows coming thick and fast from our TV screens.... ala The Block, Master Chef, etc, etc.

To me they are 1/2 hour advertisements for shit I neither want or can afford.

If I want to know about a DIY project I'll look it up on line, go to the Library or buy Better Homes and Gardens...

... and if I want a recipe... same thing.... I look it up on line, etc, etc, etc.....

I don't need to watch some vote 'em off/elimination type show that's designed purely to sell me crap

And don't get me started on those half hour info-mercials... those overly repetitive promos that...."Hello, WTF didn't I get about this pimple ridding cream the first 6 dozen times... and that's just tonight... heaven forbid I mention the 192 time you've aired the friggin' thing this year"  Then there's the Vigara info-mercials. I hate those with a passion... like the everyday bloke can afford the damned things... and there it is, being rammed down their throats every night on TV.  It's not a TV matter and it should be banned/kept in pharmacies/doctors surgeries.

The one thing I am grateful for... the removal of all those phone sex ads.  Those drove me to distraction, and I'll bet I'm not the only one who complained loud, long and frequently to the Broadcasting Commission to have them removed.  I'm no prude, but TV is not the place.... 6 to 7 times in every ad break after 11.00pm.

Shoot, another rant!  Must be the weather for it.
