Do You Customize Your Mobile Device?

Thursday, May 19, 2011 by Island Dog | Discussion: WinCustomize News

Whether it is a “smartphone” or a tablet such as the iPad, there are usually very ways to customize the device.  Most popular would be the wallpaper and possibly ringtones, so I wanted to ask the question here.  What kind of mobile device do you use, and how do you customize it, if at all?

I have a Smartphone 4g and take pics to use as personal wallpapers. I enjoy that.  Using different tones for the different folks that call is a

way I don't require caller ID also.

I used to customize it myself, but now I just install custom ROMs that have awesome customizations built in - like CM7 (Link) or MUIU (Link). I'm using a droid incredible and I'm pretty satisfied using CM7 (first pic). It has tethering (USB and wireless) built in along with many other features you normally don't have access to, like overclocking your processor or unlock gestures you can build yourself. (Plus, its the only way to get gingerbread 2.3 on my phone right now......)

I customize my Droid X (smartphone) quite a bit.

First... it is rooted to the latest breed of the Gingerbread leak.

Second... I am running the Liberty Gingerbread v0.5 ROM (Which has more than 20 different themes, with many icon packages, and even more fonts.  This ROM has a toolbox for changing animations, boot logos, pulldown bar editor, ad blocker, and above all... now my phone is blazing fast. (not bogged down with all the FLUFF forced upon my phone by both Motorola and Verizon)  Team Liberty: Developer: JRUMMY16.... Theme Manager: KOVELESKI.... General Support:  MOBILE SENSEI... Other Developers.... drod2169, kejar31, cvpcs, cyanogen, angdroid, imoseyon, braway.

Third... I run a custom launcher callled LauncherPro by Federico Carnales.  It allows you do change your dock images, dock icons, dock backgrounds, scrollable docks, screen transitions, # of homescreens, resizes all widgets, change the number of rows and columns on homescreens, and with the partnered Custom Launcher Icons app... I get at least a thousand Icons and Dock backgrounds!

Fourth and obviously... I have many different wallpaper in my gallery, and use custom ringtones from my Poweramp app (mp3's).

So if your point is... Should wincustomize get into the MOBILE thing?  My answer is YES!

Of cause iPhone and iPads it's a very cool and popular devices, and android platform have a great success, but I think will be better to make section for nokia and symbian platform.

Why?

Because

1. In last two years nokia corp prodused VERY AND VERY BIG QUANTITY of toch screen smartphones on symbian platform

2. symbiand have very poor default interface but GREAT POSSIBILITY FOR CUSTOMIZING.

3. WIDE FIELD FOR CUSTOMIZERS because symbiand alows you to make SAFE change of whole theme from buttons and icons till scrensaver and ringtones with JUST ONE CLICK, WITHOUT HACKING and making any system changes. (not as android or apple platforms where for customizing you need to flash firmware that is not very safety and where for full customizing you must have strong programing skills)

4. symbiand have it's own application for easy making themes, so, even not designer can easy make cool personalized skins and safe apply it.

5. in this summer Microsoft company will buy Nokia mobile, so, if the name of this great and unusual site is Wincustomize, it will be better if we could find here skins and themes for all windows platforms and for mobile windows too.

6. Also, placing here symbiand and windows mobile sections will ATTRACT NEW USERS to the site, who may be desire to sync skins setting on mobile with their computer by using of Windowblinds

So, six big reasons for choosing symbian and nokia devices.

P.S. Now i make mobile version of my INFINITY theme with full pack of icons (1000 pieces) it must be most beauty theme. I want to make something more cool even that iPad and iPhons icons.

I bricked mine last night. Luckily, I convinced Verizon to replace it.

Sorry to hear that, Jim.  Verizon gets a bad rap sometimes, but IMO their customer service has been outstanding.

Can you please define "convinced"?  Did you hire the law firm Smith & Wesson?

Naturally I customize my phone.  Do the service providers really think we have a use for all the bloat they put in as stock?

Lol...I told them it just happened, and that it was less than 30 days old. They asked if I had tried to root it, I asked what that meant....

Told them if they didn't replace it, I for sure wasn't gonna honor a two year contract. They said it was out of warranty, at the store.  Online said I had a year warranty and they replaced it.

It was refurbished to begin with.

That said, I am now afraid to try again, but my battery life is short and I need to lose the bloat.

Doubt I could get it replaced again, so, maybe I'll just live with it.
