Racism involves the belief in racial differences, which acts as a justification for non-equal treatment (which some regard as "discrimination") of members of that race. The term is commonly used negatively and is usually associated with race-based prejudice, violence, dislike, discrimination, or oppression,
that is stating that the hole race. which makes it a racist statement.. which is not called for and WC should have taken it down!!

I believe one popular theory is that the traits that we dislike reside in all of us.
It takes a special and unique person to understand that and to keep them in check and not allow them to see the light of day.
I could be mistaken and this is not a theory but just my own opinion.
This would though explain why so many people in the world are easily manipulated.

I was going to rant and rave here, but I will make it simple. To Vampy and all others who feel like her, people from Arab countries are not arrogant, hateful or violent, deep down the whole damn human race is!
You will find bad people in every culture and/or religion. What we all have to do is ignore them completely (unless they become radical and violent like OBL or course).
As an American who served 22 years in the military, I know the United States of America has a lot in its past to be ashamed or not proud of, as do most nations of the world. There is not one single human being on this planet that is better than the next, period. The day we learn to accept that, and people as they are (culture, religion, whatever...), is a day I truly hope to see in my lifetime, but it will probably never happen.
Learn to live with and accept one another, please let the sickness die....

So many times in my life a first impression (the way someone looks, acts, speaks or thinks) has been proven wrong after I actually got to KNOW that person. If I’d relied on those first impressions, I’d have missed out on some really good acquaintances and friendships. I also think maturity and life experience go a long way toward learning tolerance for others. And yes, truly bad, radical and violent people should be ignored if possible or dealt with accordingly if that's simply not an option.

LightStar.....you said it better than I ever could. Fundamentalism exists everywhere. Radicalism exists everywhere. 'isms' exist everywhere. The reason they do, the reason there is so much prejudice and dislike of others because they are different is this. The human race simply isn't mature enough to understand or accept others as equals. There has been some progress but obviously not enough. Ask yourself this question. Why is there no peace in the world? The answer is a simple one. If the powers that be actually 'wanted' peace we would have had it already. Peace does not fatten your wallet, confrontation does. IMHO

i appologize for my comment, it probably did come across racist, even though it wasnt meant to be.
i guess i meant the ones that are normally the bad apples in the basket that make the rest look bad too.....
my appologies once again.

No need to apologize Vamps. In all the excitement over this its bound to happen. People, no matter who they are, will speak with their feelings of the moment. I believe everyone knew what you meant to say.

How is that racist? She's entitled to express her feelings based on her experiences and I don't see anything about what she said as racist.

im sick to death of the arabs, they are nothing but arrogant, hateful, and a voilent race.

So...you don't believe there are racial differences between groups of people? Or do you just not choose to acknowledge them?
I stand by what I said the first time. Your assuming she meant the whole race. And again...she is entitled to her opinion. Where the argument can be made that just because of a few bad ones is doesn't make the whole race bad...a few good ones doesn't make a whole race good either.
Personally, I treat each person according to their behavior. But based on my personal experiences...like it or not...some races are just plain worthless. If saying that is not "PC"...fine...I don't subscribe to this whole pc thing...never did. I see things for what they are based on my own experience not on fantasy.

Actually, that's exactly what I thought you meant, because I believe in your goodness, kitty.
I can tell everyone that writing is tricky. There'll always be someone who misunderstands the writer's intent, because he or she only sees the printed word...
So to writers and readers alike, go slower and think, "How might this be misunderstood?" and don't press the "Post Reply" button too quickly.
Think about it. WebGizmos has taught me to use "Notepad", and I've only regretted it when I didn't remember to do so.
And relax.... we're all friends when you come right down to it. I was worried when this thread appeared because I just felt it in my bones that an innocent mistake would happen.

Even though she has clarified now due to the backlash comments, that is exactly what she said in the post.

She called out the entire race. She didn't specify the extremists or the bad apples. No one needs to assume anything from that statement, she laid it out in black and white. The only thing that could be taken out of that statement is that Vampothika is sick to death of all Arabs because the are arrogant, hateful and violent.
As it's been pointed out to me many, many times, one MUST be very careful how one articulates their opinions on a forum.
Case in point:
Wow.

Despite my best efforts at lightening things up, looks like I've failed.
Folks, not everything needs answering. In fact, most things are better left unsaid.
Can we please leave it at that?
All this would have made Ed very unhappy, as it's doing to me.

Reason being...
You are in a pub. You tell your mates around you you hate those stinking [insert race/gender/religion/whatever here]...and they nod and wink in agreement. Your mates know you mouth off when half pissed/whatever and besides....if those 'others' sitting in the corner get uptight...you have a glass you can 'use'......
On the net, on a forum on the net you ASSUME your audience is "with you" and if they are not, well, you really don't care a toss, anyway, do you. You don't even NEED that 'glass'.....
Reality is....the target/s of your animosity/disdain/prejudice....call it what you will .... are usually ALSO MEMBERS OF THIS FORUM.
When you condemn a 'people' by sweeping comment [irrespective of it being misguided AND simply WRONG] you inadvertently [or perhaps not] directly insult/offend your fellow members.
Wincustomize.com [as with ALL of Stardock's forums/sites] IS MULTICULTURAL.
Heck, just look at the mods here at Wincustomize. No, they're not all 'WASPs'. And if you browse through the member listings [as I sometimes need to] you'll see every nation represented in our 4.3 million. Yes, many are from the USA, and many more have English as a first language, but many are neither, too.
Adminning a site such as this means I [we] don't care WHERE people are from, I [we] only care about how they conduct themselves when they are here.
If that means people need to think twice before posting comment then so be it....![]()

In most cases yes...but I was personally able to understand that she was NOT calling out the entire race of Arabs even though it obviously "appeared" that way to some people. Some people need it explained in detail...some don't.
Quoting WebGizmos,

some races are just plain worthless
Wow.
I won't even bother trying to explain this. But I stand by what I said. It's just my opinion and I'm not here to insult anyone.
Reply #158 Wednesday, May 11, 2011 12:14 PM
And just how, based on here post alone, were you able to infer that? That post wasn't open to interpretation. If it had been stated like this:
"Im sick to death of the extremist arabs, they are nothing but arrogant, hateful, and violent."
Then it would be a whole different story. But it isn't. Because she didn't.
Really?
That could "appear" to be insulting to some people.
Reply #160 Wednesday, May 11, 2011 2:02 PM
Why? People are allowed to have discussions. It's what makes this place somewhat nice. You get to see a multitude of replies/reactions to the things that you "say". It's one of the things that makes the net interesting.
Vampothika probably would have gotten away with her "colorful" comment around her friends/family but when you put that shit out on the net, someone is going to call you out on it.
