What do you think about?
Tuesday, April 12, 2011 by inthebloodofeden | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
Since few hours the new Opera 11.10 is available for download. The first impression is excellent. Many bugs fixed, more stable, highly improved configurability and customization options.Always light as usual on resources, and quicker than ever. Now it's just time to increase the number of available add-ons(improved,but Firefox/Pale Moon is still quite far about this)!!
What do you think about?

What are you talking about,Uvah? Are there some "forum created" links in the post?I can't see them.

Relax... He's just stealing my lines. You are still running sentences together... space bar... ![]()
No longer crashes with copy-paste. Still very fast. Will test customizability as time goes on.
Good find, inthebloodofeden. Thanks.
btw, one post on the subject is enough.
*edit... seems not to accept the Forums "edit" option. hmmmmm.

I don't understand,Doc.What's wrong in that sentence?Do you mean I have to use space bar after commas?
No longer crashes with Quote as well(oh,on one of my machines there was this problem;I don't know if it was general).A lot new skins are available, and new Speed Dial backgrounds(although this is less considerable).
About repeated post, it happened like in your reply here:I just edited the post to make a variation, and one more post has been published.

Oh, I was just not taking care about that, Doc. You are right.

Giving the new Opera a test run. There doesn't seem to be a way to make this my home page. Unless I'm missing something ... as usual.

I'm not sure I understood, Uvah. Do you want to set wincustomize.com as your home page, and you are getting problems ? Are you using the Speed Dial option ? My suggestion is to set it as home page, and you can set DIRECT ACCESS from there to all the pages you want.
Reply #10 Tuesday, April 12, 2011 8:08 PM
I've got speed dial set up. What I'm looking for is to have wincustomize appear every time I open the browser as a home page same as it is with FF4. I'm not having any problems with Opera .... keeping fingers crossed.

Still as slow as ever. I'm writing this post using Opera 11.1.
This reminds of me browsing on my old machine with a slow hard drive. Blech.
I'm not settling for this. Oh well, back to Maxthon I guess.

Isn't it nice that there are enough browsers that everyone can choose which one they will use.

Just imagine if Microstuff had the only browser. KInda makes ya wanna upchuck your din din.

Oh, for that you don't need Speed Dial . Go in Tools, Preferences . In the first line (Start) select "Go to home page" ; than just insert URL in the second line (Home Page) , than OK .

Just curious , what kind of processor are you running ? And how many REAL memory have you got ? Besides, what kind of connection are you using ? If is a slow one ,you can enable Opera Turbo ; but please NOTE , if you got a fast connection , and you activate Opera Turbo , it will make the browser SLOWER . Opera Turbo works fine only with slow connections.
Anyway , I'm liking this last version of Opera . Bugs fixed , very nice new skins and really quick on both my machines.

But that's the server's load time. I'm talking about my machine's load time.
Maybe I need to give Opera a whirl for a while longer. Just to see.

Refresed this webpage (hitting F5) In Opera 11.1. Page Time Rendered at 11958ms.
Maxthon's at 3132ms
Pale Moon is at 3820ms
IE9 renders at 3512ms.
Maybe i'll try Refresing Opera again. This doesn't seem right.
*refreshes webpage*
Still loaded at 11218ms. This is by far the slowest browser i've used.
I'm actually in Maxthon now becuse Opera 11.1 still can't copy & paste text, so I pasted this in Notepad and re-copied and pasted this in Maxthon.

Would having Opera installed on a USB Flash Drive have anything to do with the browser's performance? I always thought that flash memory had faster access times than Hard Drives. But I have an SSD now, so that wouldn't make a difference (between a USB Flash Drive & an SSD).

AMD Phenom II 945 Quad-Core @ 3.00 GHz
8GB of PC10600 DDR3 RAM (I have Vista 64-bit, so ALL 8 gigs are addressed)
Wireless-N Broadband. I think the slow performance may have to do with it being installed on a flash drive. Maybe i'll try TURBO to see if it makes a difference.
After all, Opera isn't my primary browser. It's an experimental one for now.

I reinstalled Opera 11.1 on my SSD, it's still refreshes at the 7-8k ms range. Still far slower than the other browsers.
However, the first load clocked in at 2050ms. So why does refreshing make it load slower? The webpage should be stored in some sort of cache for faster loading.
