I've noticed an issue with my Lightscibe discs. After labeling them and storing them in a CD case the label itself is fading. I have no idea why this is going on. Using Vertabrim and Memorex DVD-R media.

Interesting, my wifes laptop has always had lightscribe and I may have used it once or twice but never really much cared for it. It's cool but just never cared for it.

Perhaps the holder I am using is not acid free. Will look into it.

just a thought it might just be bad ink
is any thing else fading that you printed out if no then just ignore this post here...

Lightscibe doesn't use ink. The DVD burner actually etches in a label with the laser.

Keep them out of direct bright light--especially sunlight and away from hot dry air like a heater vent near them--or on top of electronic gear that is hot.

yes I know // I was going off your reply 3 as I was still unclear as to if it was LS or Paper..
are you comparing ur old LS CD/DVD with newer one? if so did you Etch the old one with the same setting as the new one
EX you can make LS etch them more then one time so, if you only did the old ones with one pass and the newer ones with 2 to 5 passes may be where it lies
the more passes the Darker it will be ...

I've only seen a choice of normal or best with any lightscribe software I've used. What software are you referring to that allows a 5 x pass?
Since the best setting takes 20 minutes on average, I wonder how long a 5 pass would take?

Dunno much about the mechanics of Lightscribe but I'd expect the label method is 'photo-sensitive' so UV light will likely be an issue.
In other words....store them in 'the dark' ....

No I am not. I have used the same Lightscibe burner on all my projects. All of them are fading. I have the program set to best possible resolution so it does multiple passes.

well I might have been pushing it a bit it's been a long time since I use an LS Drive and when it first came out without downloading it separately it would only pass one time. but with the Download you could do it more then once but then it was not a one time pass or best I think it had up to 3 passes. so 5 was probably ok it was pushing it. it's been like 3 to 4 years since I had LS... hooked up cause it just stopped reading the CD's or DVD's
did they ever come out with a color one? think they was saying they was working on it at one time... not just colored Disc

no colored lightscribe yet....just different colored discs.
i've used lightscribe quite a bit the last couple years. i have yet to notice any degradation of the "label" on any of the discs i've burned. granted, i keep my discs in sleeves and they are not subjected to light very often.

My discs are in sleeves as well. It's the actual sleeves that are causing the fading. The plastic part. I'm wondering if the plastic is acid free or not.

LightScibe dose not put labels on CD or DVD it etches on the CD/DVD.. Are you saying the Etches are fading? or are you make CD/DVD covers ?
if the Covers are fading make sure you use and Acid FREE paper and tape (Tape if you are using it too hold the CD/DVD cover to the case) or any other bonding agent
