The loan Bastion of Hi Res

Tuesday, August 21, 2001 by shotgun | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Am I the only person who runs their monitor at 1600*1200? I was just searching for a skin that would work at that resolution but haven't been having much luck the Lcars Pro one works (sorta) .... but as I have all the artistic talent of a coffee thats been sitting on my balcony slowely evolving over about 3 months .... i was hopeing I could encourage some skinners to do some nice high res ones... I have seen some fabulous skins, but 1280*1024, isn't big enough.. either that or I'm a monitor snob... like my coffee I guess

No, you're not the only one. In fact, my I8000 only looks good at 1600*1200. I've been lucky with my chosen walls, which have resized nicely so far, but sometimes a Windowblinds theme can just plain be unuseable.

you use desktop X or just window blinds? i only discovered DX a few days ago and have been quite taken with it, put simply Its what I have wanted for years, and it is actually fast! (amazed look).... but all I want for christmas is a theme that works !!!

shotgun,

I'm in the same boat... I run at 1600x1200 and had to on many occasions resort to running 1280x1024 just to use a theme.

My more recent LiteSTEP themes are resolution independent....although I DO limit them to 640 and 1600.....beyond those two limits is just plain weird...

My card can go beyond that limit, don't know if there are screens that can though, so I stick to 1600x1200. Anyway, shotgun, modifying skins to fit your resolution isn't that hard. Try it.

Yeah Jafo, did I mention my spelling was almost as good as my artistic skills I noticed that before and had a bit of a grimace. But, Back to the topic.... I still muddling through editing this Lcars Pro theme, trying to fix up some of the menus and stuff.. If any one has any hints or tips in getting other themes to work at higher res' I'd be thankful... Tried to resize the zero one but I don't know what I'm doing.... every time I tried to move the task bar it vanished... oh well I'll keep investigating, I'll suss it eventually

Most good DesktopX themes are resolution independent. MY themes certainly are.

And I run at 1600x1200.

I haven't yet installed DesktopX yet. I heard Juni grumbling about this very thing, so I've been putting it off. I'll get around to it eventually though... But I'm shamefully theme-crazy, and since there aren't a lot of new total theme packages out there.. I can well put it off.

This is interesting, there will now be a rash of themes geared for 1600x1200 showing up and the people that are limited to 1024x768 will be screaming. A while ago I decided to limit the size walls I put in zips and focused on 1600, 1152, and sometimes 1280's and within 2 weeks was getting emails of people complaining they wanted 1024's. Maybe it would be a good idea for someone to run a pole and see what exactly is the mass majority of the screen resolutions being run. For it seems every few months it changes.

I foresee 1600x1200 users rising up and flowing forth from their worplaces like warm beer from a barrel, stunning the skinning comunity by the sheer demand for high res skins.... or something... maybe I should try sleeping once in a while.... nah... everyone knows sleep gives you cancer...

A GOOD DesktopX theme should be resolution independent.
