Confused with SmartStartup

Sunday, January 18, 2004 by Hus | Discussion: Stardock Software

I was wondering what causes the pink box and how do I make it go away? I reinstalled Stardock Central...but that didn't work. I'm not even sure what program that is, I don't have anything set to load at startup besides DX. So, now I'm confused...any ideas?

Should be the SDC icon....hmmmm...is your Stardock Central icon showing in the system tray?

..this is where the icon is ...C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\Component Tray

No...but I did reinstall all my ODNT components about a month ago. And before I did this...SmartStarup wasn't working at all...even though I had DX to load at startup. This is what made me reinstall it...pink box been there ever since. I'm thinking something went screwy with the uninstall/reinstall...but atleast it's working now...

Hummm...and no Tray Icon!?

You need to get into the Tray settings and check 'Load Stardock Central Tray' on startup....

Now all we need to do is get the icon ...I think your CT install is wacked... try un-installing tray component and re-installing it

Um...gary...recheck the screenshot. There is an icon, it's right next to the DX icon.

Ohhhh....yes.

Just to clarify...this would be the first time I've ever installed CT...since buying ODNT.

Hmmm...ok..check Task Manager and see if Sdmcp.exe is running..

They just came out with it not that long ago...so it's a first for all.

In SDC Tools/Settings make sure both MCP startup options are checked

Here's a history of MCP:

0.60
----

v.52:

-Not showing startup/launching apps for some people fixed
-WinLogon portion moved to mcpstub.dll

v.51:
-SmartStartup no longer launches during safe mode.
-Purple icon issue fixed
-'Startup Manager 1.0' changed to 'SmartStartup'.
-SmartStartup can now be hidden by pressing the
Escape key. Components will still be launched,
however the status will not be visible.

I think that MCP install might be doing it...you can try this if you want and see if it corrects your version, although an SDC un-install, re-boot, re-install would probably be more successful...try this http://mi.stardock.com/private/mcp_notfound.exe and if it doesn't fix it then do the SDC song and dance.
