CHICAGO – The nation's midsection braced for a massive winter storm Monday that forecasters said will bring heavy snow and ice to much of the Plains and Midwest as the week progresses.
The National Weather Service forecast freezing rain and snow across the region Monday, heralding the start of a storm system that is expected to bring heavy snowfall Tuesday and Wednesday, paralyzing parts of the region. The storm was expected to march from the Rockies through much of the Plains and Midwest before making its way to the East Coast.
Early Monday, freezing drizzle made roads slick in northwest Missouri, causing cars to slide off highways in Buchanan County and prompting authorities to cancel classes at public and private schools in the area. Freezing rain and fog led to some flight delays Sunday at the airport in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Chicago and Milwaukee were expected to be particularly hard-hit. The weather service issued a blizzard watch for Tuesday and Wednesday for southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois and northwest Indiana that included those cities. Forecasters said snowfall totals could reach up to 2 feet in some areas by the time the storm system has moved through the region.
The weather service said the heavy snowfall combined with high winds could create whiteout conditions, particularly on Tuesday night into Wednesday, making driving extremely dangerous in some areas. Snow drifts of 5 feet to 10 feet are possible. The service said winds on Tuesday could reach up to 60 mph in open areas and near Lake Michigan.
Once the storm has moved through, bitterly cold temperatures are expected to grip much of the region. The weather service said wind chills as cold as 40 degrees below zero could hit parts of North Dakota and South Dakota.

g3mpi3 stated the facts according to real hands on evidence. These facts do not lie as they can be proven. We are, all of us, guilty of adding to the acceleration of global warming which is a natural process. The operative word being acceleration. In short, we're making it happen faster than it normally would have. Lets not allow this to become heated as that will defeat the purpose of this thread. We can hold a lively debate and listen respectfully to everyone's opinion. There is no right nor wrong. Every one has a voice and it should be heard in a respectful manner.

The Earth has warmed and cooled throughout its history.
Thought I'd throw that in for good measure. But, nope. Saw nothing personal to you scharchuk.
Is there a double standard here?
Nope.
You missed the gullible sheep reference...
..........
How true.... trouble is this time, various people have seen a way to make big bucks out of it... and will, thanks those gullible sheep who believe this global warming bullshit.
............
I believe in it........ I'm only showing him the same respect he showed me to begin with. Does he get called on it as well... No.

scharchuk -
Unless you believe you are one of the 'gullible sheep' no one else called you that. Starkers reference was to no one in particular as it was a general reference whereas your comments on the 'padded room' 'tin hat' 'mind control rays' were as you quoted his post.
There is no double standard here.

Thought I had stated my opinion on that pretty good at post #17. And I still adhere to that.
That we know where one stands, doesn't mean one has to stop speaking of it, as to not offend. As, we speak now scharchuk. ![]()

Scharchuk... You personalized it by directing it to one person. The remark you were reacting to was a 'general' statement which wasn't directed at you personally.
Please stop. Move on to happier threads... but Hankers is correct. He's not singling you out.

Global Warming™ is a natural state of the planet. What is up for debate as is to what is causing it. Given that the Industrial era hasn't been around for any significant period of time, I'm more likely to believe it is a natural cycle with almost no influence from "man".
I agree everyone should do what they can to conserve, recycle, etc., but I'm not running around scared because of what alarmists are screaming. You might want to look more at the carbon credit scam that has taken people for billions of dollars, and then come back to me about who is really funding the talk about warming.
An article from 2004 doesn't take into account the wrong and exaggerated data that we have since learned about. Remember, if is real then there is no need to fake anything.
Anyways, if you can't have a mature discussion without resulting in insults via public and PM, then the thread has to be closed.
