January Desktop Screenshots

Well happy new year everyone. I thought I would get the ball rolling with a new screenshot post seeing how December 2010 has left us.

Here is a new take on Solid State thanks to a new texture I made tonight. I now know how to do them, YEAH! The start menu and taskbar in this shot are not transparent. It is a schematic texture.

An F-14? One of my favorites

I once built a 1/32 scale model of an F/A-18 Hornet

I've got one of a Tomcat. My favorite.

I was stationed at Miramar in 1982. Seemed like they did touch and go's 24/7. Noisy and distinctive.

A couple years ago I was standing in my front yard and heard one fly over. I told my wife that it was an F-14 and it sounded like it was landing at the local airport. The nearest NAS is Jacksonville so we don't get much military traffic. Come to find out, when the Navy retired them our Airport (DeLand) got one for a display.

If you've ever seen a SR-71 banking over the freeway at low altitude, it's a show stopper.

I saw SR 71's landing at Kadena AFB late 60's of course the US claimed they were not there.

I remember the SR-71 doing the cross-country run. Set a new speed record coast to coast. Here's a little something. When they first went into service in '66 there were models of them I bought. Back then there were two versions. The original was the YF12A. It was called a 'suborbital interceptor'. What was interesting is the stats listed on the instruction sheet. I never forgot them. Service ceiling in excess of 80,000 feet, top speed in excess of mach 2. Of course Uncle Sam played it down. I know now that those stats were the come on to sell the model. The SR-71 actually is capable of much more impressive numbers.

Honestly...an SR-71 at any altitude is a show stopper.

That beauty parked on a runway looks like it's doing mach warp speed.

Here is something I think is quite special using Vampothika new blind. Notice the cool sysmetrix skin I made. It's just a clock for now but I may add more after work.

You're rackin' 'em up JC. Love the Airframe. Cool clock too.

Bit of trivia: SR-71 uses it's jet fuel as hydraulic fluid. During flight the airframe compresses. On the ground it stretches out and the hydraulic fluid (jet fuel) leaks out. Normal for the plane. Also ... 75% of its fuel is used on take-off and in-flight re-fueling is a necessity. One more thing. Top speed at altitude exceeded mach 3. That's more than 2100 mph.

Thanks Uvah. The clock is a work in progress but I think it is coming along quite nicely. I will probably add a toggle button so I can toggle individual windows with different info.
