Two Word Pole

Thursday, July 26, 2001 by Jim | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Hello everyone, how about a Pole, you only (if you choose to participate) need to type two words.
Of coarse if you wish to say more, please do.

The Pole: What Desktop Enhancement or Shell Replacement do you use predominately, other then your OS. And are you using it as a shell enhancement or as a shell replacement.

The List: of apps.

-DesktopX, Enhancement
-HoverDesk, Enhancement or Shell
-LiteStep, Enhancement or Shell
-NextStart, Enhancement or Shell
-Talisman, Enhancement or Shell

I'm sure I've missed a few, please do not be limited by my list.

The reason for the pole: I think it will be interesting on its own. And I hope to use it to help me with a decision.

Notes: I promise to, if need be, to never use this information in any Public Forum. Or any other rule I need to meet.

Thanks (This is fun)

pole=poll
coarse=course

Litestep can not be used as an enhancement, only as a full shell replacement.
I have tried all the above, and can honestly say that Litestep and DesktopX are the only ones I can get along with. All the others have something that I don't like, somewhere. I have just started using DesktopX after a long period of constant Litestepping, and so far I really like it.
My two cents............

Litestep mainly, but playing around with DesktopX to see if it can be a worthy addition to my shell. If LS would've had alpha blending it would've been far superior to anything else.

Sometimes DX, sometimes Litestep. Most of the times nothing.

LiteStep leads to grief, whether run as shell or enhancement especially when combined with Explorer.

Anyway, us craes run LiteShell and EppieDesktop along with some other small apps (WinShade, win32wm and more like that).

Base LS configuration for shell with DX and OB running on top, since I ditched explorer (win2k), I've not had a single crash on my machine.
