Free Give Away of the Day Gone?
Monday, November 1, 2010 by DrJBHL | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
It would appear that Free Give Away of the Day's domain name has expired....I don't think my browser was hijacked.
A shame, as it was a great site to pick up freeware. I hope they repurchase the domain.

Thanks, it's good to know that. Unfortunately a handful of GOTD users, however, do not share your opinion and are apparently convinced Winstep was trying to scam them in some away. One of them went as far as calling me an 'arrogant SOB' (sic) for politely pointing out that not reading the install instructions was his own mistake. One has to have a though skin on this business.
On the other hand, countless many others were 'converted' to the good cause, and they're pretty happy with it. Can't win them all, I supose.![]()
Well, GOTD acts more like a 'portal' than anything else. Besides, all Registry cleaners, even CCleaner, are dangerous tools to use.

OK, at 8:45 pm I was there, site was up. That is when I posted the above post. It isn't up now. Unless someone slipped me acid, it was up at 8:44 pm EST.

Looks like it is down and the domain has expired. Apart from following Frankie's link, I did a search and entered the GOTD result and it gives a 'domain expires' notice.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but can anyone tell me if there is a problem at WC. I keep getting blank pages and couldn't access Stardock .com so I came to JoeUser. Pages are timing out, There's problems loading pages too. What's going on??

9:54 p.m. I clicked on Frankief's link ... http://www.giveawayoftheday.com and it is up and running. I don't see any problems at all.

There's a lot of weirdness going on lately. Believe it or not I got here through JoeUser. Sorry for the hijacking but this is unreal. I use FF and going to wincustomize wouldn't work for nothing. I tried to go to Stardock.com and the page was all wrong. Then to JoeUser and clicked on the forums then options and posts from all sites then here at WC. Frankief's link they say is broken yet I was just there using that link while, was it DrJBHL who said the site had expired? Not from here it hasn't. Like I said ... weird!

Again, we use different DNS servers. In 24 to 48 hours we will all know if this was an accident (i.e.; GOTD accidentaly forgot to renew their domain - it actually happened to Microsoft once, believe it or not) or if they are trully gone (doubt it very much). Anyway, expired domains remain on 'hold' for 3 months, during which time nobody other than the original owner is able to grab it.

Wow, that must be good acid.....It wasn't, I saw pretty much the same thing. One moment it was there, the next, it wasn't.
Thank you, I was worried about me......![]()

As I suspected: http://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/dzfrg/today_is_the_saddest_day_of_my_life/
Hello everybody, we are aware of the situation with Giveaway of the Day site and are sorry for the inconvenience. Our domain record domain was supposed to auto-renew but failed for some reasons that have yet to be investigated.
Let us assure you that domain has successfully been renewed, still the system needs time to get the site back to proper work.
For those users who still experience problems with access to GOTD, please stay on-line or try to reach us in several hours. We will finally be back!

I dunno. You had problems going there and I didn't. I had problems getting here and you didn't. That is what I call weird! Can someone explain that. And how did I get here from JoeUser??

That's not what I'm seeing as yet, but it might day a few more hours before it filters through here.
Funny thing you say that, Philly, I clicked on a link to majorgeeks and had a Fringe moment. I'm sure I saw another me from another universe logging in at the same time.
Sheesh, there's actually more than one of me?

We should never underestimate the cause and effect of the human element in our day to day life.

OK, I mis spoke. They may have let it expire, but the site is up now and Doc's link is still bad. If you'll right click it, choose copy shortcut, then paste into a word processor you'll see it's a bad link. Or just click it. It still takes you to a generic/default error site, not to Giveaway of the Day.
