Installing Styles/themes for Objectdock2
Saturday, October 23, 2010 by Ladysarajane | Discussion: ObjectDock
I have purchased Objectdock2plus and I find the new Gui panel much more intuitive for a newbie to learn to set what they want on the docks. My problem comes with installing new themes for it. How do I add them to the backgrounds? I have downloaded two 'themes' and unzipped them to c:/programs/stardock/objectdockplus2/backgrounds and when I go to use the "styles" I see I can use them for my "Zoomer" dock as a background, but if I try to go to use a style for my tab dock, it doesn't show. The styles do have a tab dock background cause I see they have it labeled 'Top1' and 'top2', but they don't show up for me? What am I missing? Is there an easier way to install these? Both themes are supposed to be for OD2.

Hi Lady,
I unzip mine to a folder titled "backgrounds" My folder sits in "my documents" under "stardock"
you can either drag the entire folder from winzip or unzip it directly to the backgrounds folder.
I can also walk you thru this on the phone if you'd like because I do know how frustrating it can be
not to be able to view your downloads and enjoy them at the time of download.
If you'd like, my email address is [email protected] ,,,,,,,,send me an email and I will send you
my phone number.
Take care,
Elizabeth

No, doesn't work, but thanks for the help Uvah . Doesn't show at all in backgrounds. I keep looking for a tutorial on installing these, but can't find one.

oh and by the way,,,,,,,Objectdock 2 has two different styled docks you can play with and create and either show both docks or one at a time.
It's a great software, once you know what you are doing ![]()

Are you sure it is not just 2 versions of a zoomer dock, if a dock is coded to be a tabbed dock it will only show in UI as a tabbed dock it will not be in the zoomer dock list.
Maybe a link or the name of the docks you are trying to install.

yes - that would be really helpful for me too. I had no problems installing docks in objectdock1, but I just switched and I find it really frustrating as there seem to be no instructions whatsoever...
If anyone is so kind as to give a step-by-step example please?

Yes it has a Tabbed and Zoomer docks which are great. I have unzipped the files to my Background folder and the Zoomer Dock shows it up nicely to change the background with, but when I choose the Tab dock to edit it, the Style/theme doesn't show it at all for me to change it to the new style.
In the background folder, I have unzipped my new styles for the object dock. One is Halloweeny2 and the other is LightningS style which has three folders in it for the three different styles that come with it.
I am going to concentrate on the Halloweeny2 Style for now. If I go to change the "background" on the Zoomer dock settings, I have no problem changing it to Halloweeny2 background. It shows up in my backgrounds to chose it. If I go to my Tab Dock settings and try to change it to the the Halloweeny2 theme, it is not available in the choices for me to change my Tabbed Dock settings. So I am missing something here. I can change my one Dock(Zoomer dock), but not my Tabbed Dock. Not sure why it isn't showing up.

Halloweeeny2 is by me, there is no tabbed dock, LigntningS by Frankell is just 3 tray zoomer docks no tabbed dock.
Edit: unlike version 1.9. OD 2.0 only shows tabbed docks (code to be tabbed dock) for tabbed docks, 1.9 use to have the zoomers in there as well but for the most part since they where not coded as tabs, IMO, never really looked good used as a tabbed dock.

That would explain it then on why they wouldn't show up in the Tabbed area. I guess I just assumed there would be matching Tabs to the Zoomers in these themes.
Thanks Cavan1! ![]()
So am I right in unzipping these folders to '../Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDockPlus2\Backgrounds' ?

Yes.
You're directory is correct however there are 3 different folders in the "backgrounds". If you download a Tab dock it should go into the Tabs folder.
usually when people make more than 1 type of dock in the zip file they are usually in there own folder and labeled as such.
Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDockPlus2\Backgrounds\Tabs

Not really needed to go in that folder, the main reason, IMO, for these folders is that is where the included docks are. As long as the folder for a dock is in the Backgrounds folder OD will see them and properly sort them in the lists in config.
I have not yet with 2.0 but for 1.9 I had move all the docks out of the 3 folders and then deleted the folders. I prefer to have dock sets in one folder, as in not the tiles in tiles tabbed in tebbed etc. 1 folder = instance access to all docks in that set.

Thanks Cavan. I didn't know that and was only trying to help with what I thought was correct. I better sit on the side till I learn more myself.

Thanks everyone. I have been able to unzip my files to '../Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDockPlus2\Backgrounds and now I can find both tabbed docks and zoomer docks if the skin has them. I guess I was unlucky to pick a couple that didn't have the tabbed docks as my first to install and it confused me.
Hope this helps someone else with the same question as I had. Littleprakhem did this help you? Just unzip the zipped folder into the background folder and Object dock2 will pick them up.

Try unzipping them in the 'skin' folder. From what I understand themes contain icons and such. If this is the case try it. I'm a noobie too but mine is the free version. I can use backgrounds but not tabbed docks. Hope this helps.
