How do I?

Personal pages a thing of the past?

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 by CarGuy1 | Discussion: WinCustomize 2011 Feedback

With the new Wincustomize, how do I find a link to someones personal site?

On the old site you could click on a skinners name under Top Skinners and you would be taken to thier WinCustomize site. Now you just end up with a list of latest skins.

There used to be a address book of sorts that you could look someone up and get to thier site...where is it now?

Say I'm a newbie and I saw a skin I liked by Vampothika and wanted to visit her WinCustomize site and check out her gallery, how would I do it?

Am I overlooking something obvious?

Nope, you're not overlooking anything: https://forums.wincustomize.com/398709

Forum profiles do have a link to personal pages (but you'd have to find the author on the forums first!)

Other than that, you have type their site in the address bar, e.g., carguy1.wincustomize.com

There really should be a button for that.

It really makes the site hard for a newbie. In the example, it would be almost impossible for a newbie to find Vampothika's site. Most of us know that she would be listed as kittymalone, someone knew to the site would have no idea.

Perhaps they could put a link to the person's personal page where the "subscriber skins" link is on the person's profile page.

It seems pointless to have a link to the subscriber skins on everyone's profile page, when there is a link next to the log off button.

Also, please bring back the address book of users...I used to love going through it and reminiscing.

This is what WebGizmos said a long time ago, along with the inconvenience of not having the whole of the artist's work available.

well you can see the list of thier skins when you view their profile if you click their skins button at the right, but their not thumbed.

for example: https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/all/pagesize/30/view/list/author/RedneckDude

When you click on a skin image, be it on the Home page or via the Explore (galleries) dropdown menu, to go to that skin's download page, the box to the right called More from this Author shows the three latest skins. This would be a good place to have a button to take you direct to the author's gallery, which would display in Tile mode and with a Gallery (ie Wallpapers, Blinds etc) selector, similar to the old site.  While I'm here could I suggest renaming Explore to Galleries.

I really think there should be an option to "View Member's Entire Gallery" which would then give page 1, etc.

Other than hunting down a persons name in the forums you should be able to click on their nic anywhere on the site and be taken either right to their profile or to their gallery AND be able to see more than just their most recent skins. I still don't see how navigation on this site was anywhere near as good as the last one. As like Carguy said...for a newbie it must be near impossible for them to find anything. I come here every day and I can hardly find things. Finding someones gallery should be the easiest thing to do.

To much time is being spent on adding/fixing things on the site that really aren't that important and in some cases not even really needed...and the stuff that needs fixing is all but ignored.

I'm sort of used to it being that way. When I first came to WC I couldn't find a thing. When I came back the site had changed so much I spent the better part of a day just trying not to get lost.

Now those, I'm sure HG can make disappear!

While we are asking "How do I?".......How do I change my honorific on my site to show my new rank?

Seriously, though...I don't see any way to access "My Account" as there was on the old site, and you can't do it through Joeuser.... sorry I couldn't help you, Randy. Try the IRC?
